I don't get to the movies to often for a couple of reasons, one I don't always have the cash and two, it's hard to find someone to watch my kids. But yesterday I took my oldest son (who will be 8 in June) to see Spiderman 3. It's become a tradition for just the two of us to go see the Spiderman movies and he was really looking forward to it (OK, I was looking forward to getting away, just the two of us).
In the past when I've seen movies, I usually stay away from buying popcorn and other goodies because it's common knowledge that the prices are overinflated. As a special treat however, I relented and decided to buy a large popcorn (of course I snuck water and candy in my purse, shhhh!). I was quite surprised when I saw the price of $7.00! True, I could have decided to not buy it but I had promised my son we'd get some and so I did. The popcorn was only OK, I think the price made it not taste as good. ;) Of course my son enjoyed it quite a bit and in the end, that was all that mattered. Next time I'll be sneaking a little bag of my own buttered popcorn, which will be soon because I promised my 5 year old I'd take him to see Shrek The Third. It will be his first movie ever and he is a big talker so I'm hoping that he'll be quiet during the movie. :)
I enjoyed Spiderman 3. I thought the action was awesome, it had some sad parts and my son had his eyes glued to the screen. If it weren't for our tradition though, I would have waited until it was on DVD because it wasn't a MUST SEE movie for me. I'm a big fan of Bruce Campbell and he had a brief role in it so that was another perk for me.
Whether you do or do not buy popcorn when you're seeing a movie, how much is it where you are?
