The Knights of Columbus other wise known as the men with the funny hats. The Honor Guard of the Fourth Degree of the Knights of Columbus can be seen in parades, in wakes of brother Knights and at various Masses. Here we are performing escort duty at the New York State Convention.
T
he colors on the capes (and sword handles) represent the position of the person within the Fourth Degree. The regular uniform is the white chapeau feather and the red cape. Those who have been leaders of the local Assembly, or Faithful Navigator, wear white capes and have white handles on their swords. Those who are currently in charge of the Honor Guard at the local level wear purple capes and a purple feather in their chapeau.
The next highest level is the district. The leader of the district, known as the Master, wears a gold cape, chapeau, and carries a gold handled sword. The leader of the Honor Guard at the district level is the Marshal, and he wears green for his cape and the feather on his chapeau. When all get together, it's like a bowl of fruit loops.
