Last night my husband and I were playing with Kyleigh. She was lying in her crib, smiling, and cooing like every other baby. Suddenly, she looked at me straight in the eyes. Her smile was gone and she looked very serious. She started making these different sounds. They weren't the normal stretched out "oohhhh" or "ehhhh". They were shorter, and sounded just like words, except that I could not understand. I felt that she was talking to me and trying to tell me something. Some of the sounds actually sounded like "ma", but I am sure she didn't mean that. I tried to give her a few things like the pacifier or the toys, but that wasn't what she wanted. So I bent down and asked her to repeat what she said. She did, but unfortunately I still couldn't figure out what she was trying to say. I went and asked my mom to come to rescue. But my mom said she had never heard Kyleigh making any words-like sounds. When my mom came upstairs, Kyleigh returned to the normal baby cooing, not the speech she just gave me. I guess I'll never find out what she tried to tell me.

She is now making many noises that have meaning. She makes short sharp noises when she really wants whatever she is looking at (usually while slapping at it or whoever is holding her.), and she is starting to say "da" whenever her dad is in the room, but never when he is not there. She growls and mimics sounds her dad and I make at her already. She has been doing this for quite a while and now is sort of repeating the things she has been doing already, while she picks up scooting and motor skills like picking up and dropping things.
I say a few things back to her, like "Oh, is that right?" "Ah, that is it." "What did you say?" or "Can you repeat that?"
