It's Sanjaya all over again. Everyone agrees that Billy Ray Cyrus isn't the best dancer in Dancing With the Stars but he IS in the final five and that's gotta count for something. I'd say it's his ability to charm the audience, the way he makes contact with the crowd and the way he puts the fans before the judges that has made him an audience favorite (he got some of my votes). Whatever the reason, he's still there and for that he should get some credit.
Not according to Bruno. Last night the always exuberant judge went so far as to call Billy Ray's dance crap. He caught his slip at the last second but live TV is live TV and well, at least it wasn't something worse. Still, Billy Ray took that remark to heart and berated Bruno later in the show calling him rude and saying he should take lessons from Billy Ray on how to be a Southern gentleman.
I'm behind that, Billy Ray. Not saying the judges have to score higher than he deserves but certainly they should refrain from remarks that border on personal attacks.
On the upside, Muhammad Ali was on hand to see his daughter dance live and it was truly a poignant moment when she blew a kiss to him as part of the choreography. Even her partner Maksim seemed overwhelmed by the moment. Oh and I could hug Billy Ray for running over to great The Champ after his number and following through with a couple of fast boxing jabs.
The rest of the show was interesting if not memorable but I do want to send a nasty note to whomever chose "Jessie's Girl" for Apolo and Julianne's tango! Yikes!
