I would much MUCH rather wear the stupid sign for a few hours than do any jail time.

Only in Alabama.....LOL

most people do not want to be humiliated and jail time can most often still be hidden, but that sign is awefully big... good one!

I think it's perfectly just. I hope they were made to stand outside the very store they stole from.

Oh yes, they did have to stand outside of the store that they stole from for 4 hours yesterday and they said that they have 4 hours to do next week as well.
I think they each have a few shifts that they have to stand outside for rather than jail time.

still embarassing but I would much rather do that than jail time anyday !!

I think it's a great idea. Now middle school students should be taken by there, so they can see it too. Maybe it will deter them from shoplifting as they get older and have more peer pressure.

I know seeing the gov'n from New Jersey that was injured in anaccident made my 10 yr. old say, "Well, if he had been wearing his seatbelt like he was supposed to, then he wouldn't have gotten hurt like this. Boy was he stupid." Hmm...

I used to think of wearing such a sign in a public area. It would read, "I live in a house, I am employed, please let me help you". I would have my pockets filled with one dollar coins.

Agreed, alternative punishment is great since our system is full of "innocent" people. I am on the fence at times with the creative punishments as of late. If her story was true then it is not a good thing, but if she did shop lift I pray that she had not teenage or pre teen children to see this... the punishment her kids would face is far more damaging than the sixty day jail sentence.

On a side note, if you are going to steal might as well do it at a bank... I figure if you are going to do it do it big LOL ;)

Now Walmart does not want the theives to stand outside on the store property. They say that they are concerned about the safety of the person wearing the sign...that is a crock of BULL !! Walmart is only in it for themselves. The judge in Alabama now had to move the sign-wearers to wear the same sign but stand outside of the courthouse.

Walmart does NOT care about the thief, they only care that they don't get sued and the attention that it is bringing them. Come on Walmart....the public is NOT as stupid as you think.

I saw the story on this. The judge has come up with other "creative" ways of punishing people.

My favorite--making people who subject others to their blaring stereo systems spend a couple of hours in a room listening to John Denver and Barry Manilow.

I'm going to tell a shoplifter I know about this one... He will definitely laugh at it and he definitely wouldn't get humilated by the sign and would find it hilarious to wear the sign. He doesn't care to brag about stealing, either. haha

Heck, that is easy punishment... LOL! Give me the sign! If that is all the punishment, then what do I get for the steal? haha! Can I have some baby diapers or how about formula since it is expensive? I can't stop laughing. I don't care to wear the sign, but what do I get in return for wearing it? haha

Can't tell me you haven't stolen something? OH c'mon, stop and listen to me.. OK, fine, walk away, don't listen.

If your child needed food or clothes and you couldn't afford it and had no money, don't tell me you wouldn't steal eggs... I would get people's attention one way or another... EASY punishment.. just so easy!

Would I really care? No. I will just blare it and do what I want anyway. If people don't like it- oh well, it is my vehicle - just like a house and I will do what I want with it... If people don't like it, don't come near my vehicle! LOL!
