A PAINTING OF PANSIES COMES TO LIFE:...

Step 5 ~ Paint Basic Backgrounds of Pansies and Window

Using acrylic paint and a variety of painters brushes, I mixed the colors for the window (background) and flower faces.

Photo K: Apply Darker Colors First

The general rule with acrylics and oils is to paint dark to light.

NOTE: I made an exception to the rule in the case of a few flower faces, where I felt I would need the brightness of the white background underneath some whites and yellows, to help convey the stained glass effect.

Photo L: Apply a Wash of Color for Background

As this color dries the underlying lines begin to show through; these will become black lines in the finished painting.

I hope you will watch for future articles showing the next steps in the process of an idea become a real painting.

Pansie paradise! I love pansies and the way they look like they have face's.

Pansies are my favorite and purple is my favorite color, i am thinking this might be my favorite painting so far! (Not that they aren't all awesome!)

Pansies are my favorite flower. I'm not a painter but i love pansies. In fact, my garden is known as the liberal garden because I grow so many bleeding hearts and pansies :)
