Forecaster Calls Gore "Gross Alarmist"

This top hurricane forcaster, when you check him out, no longer does the forcast, is eighty some years old, and admits to being somewhat ticked at the young whipper snappers that had the audacity to not come whorship at his throne, and ask his opinion before publishing their theories. I think he might be more accurately described as being an old coot, and a character, than a genuine practicing scientist, anymore. He did used to put out the forcast, but now there are younger men doing it, as it was too much for him, and his advanced age. As for your link to Glen Back's debacle, eight of the ten that he talks to there, are linked to the oil and fossil fuel industries, and the other two are notclimatoligists, and do not address the problem, itself. Read the first paragraph, and especially this sentence "I want you to know right up front, this is not a balanced look at global warming." Exxon, and others have been bankrolling the opposition to the global warming debate with millions and millions of dollars. Every time I hear one of these doubting thomases, he invariably turns out to be a crackpot, like this guy, or on the fossil fuel payroll, in some capacity. The debate is over, the only question is do we have the will to act.

I'll give you a ten for discussability of the subject though, as I am trying to set a good example to contrast with the trolls that downgrade any article they disagree with. Gather needs a shot of integrity, you are welcome, one and all, to join me in that effort to turn it around.

Somebody out there says Gore is an alarmist and they get published? Listen to the scientists. They say global warming is real. Even the president now admits it.

Personally I've always considered Gore a tad gross.

Alarmist isn't the word I'd use for the rest. You know Snake Oil salesmen were successful too.

Of course we're getting warmer. Climate change happens all the time; it's natural.

Evidence shows we're still emerging from the Little Ice Age, yet it was 3 degrees warmer in the 1300s than it was today.

I gave a speech this weekend honoring Louie Wainwright, the Dean of American Corrections. He's president of the Foundation that I serve as Executive Director. Like the scientist in the article, Mr. Wainwright is in his 80s.

My first statement was, "One thing I've noticed is that the current generation forgets the groundwork laid by the previous generations before us. We assume that what is has always been so."

I also went on to lay out that modern corrections in Florida is owed to he relentless reforming that he began in 1947, really picked up in 1962 and continues to this day.

His insight still carries weight today.

Likewise, I can imagine this gentleman in the same boat. And our generation could stand to learn from him. Just because he's old doesn't mean what he has to say can be easily brushed off.

The truth is, he's probably forgotten more than the new generation will ever learn.

Use it , abuse it , and loose it. Goodbye Mother Earth.

There is only one generally recognized scientific organization that has not signed off on global warming, and amazingly they are affiliated with the oil industry. Read about the old gentleman here, and you will find he's a nut. It's over, the fat lady has sung, but with Exxon pouring 16 million into the same kind of false science that the tobacco industry engaged in for years, even using some of the same organizations to do it, misinformation refuses to die. Fossil fuel and fossilized ideas seem to go together quite well, actually.

Question, how much of the fossil fuel we call crude oil was there in 1900, how much is left? How much co 2 was in the atmosphere when the carbon in the crude oil was "trapped" in the deposits. Now, How much of that carbon have we returned to the atmosphere?

I don't know. Do you have a source for that?

I don't know, but CO2 in the atmosphere presently is 380 ppm, and scientists are hoping we will not go beyond 450 ppm. I don't know the specifics of the questions you are asking, but your point is well taken - that we are not only emitting a "normal" amount of CO2, but also CO2 that nature "sequestered" millions of years ago. Thom Hartmann makes this case in his book, "Last Hours of Ancient Sunlight."

Whatever the merits on either side of the "GW" debate, Gore IS a gross alarmist. He's not the only one; others demagogue many issues as "crises." It's one way to raise awareness for an issue, and it's been done throught human history.

I'm glad to see people standing up to him, as I am pleased at the push for a real, cleaner energy source. People like Gore are a "neccessary evil," though I don't mean that he's evil. It's not like we can just "silence them," as they seek to do to their opponents.
