Today after we had already fed the horses and were preparing to leave, Ms. Poesia announced her interest in Favorito by standing with her rear end pressed up against the gate to his pasture. We put our plans to depart on hold, caught and haltered her, and well, let's just say that Favorito is no longer a virgin. He could not have had a better first experience than he had with this patient and experienced mare. (It took him four tries to get it right.) I am pleased to announce that we have a projected date for foal patrol and arrival on or about April 9th 2008!

We won't know if conception occurred for at least 21 days. If it didn't, Poesia will come back into heat, so stay tuned for news and developments!

Anxious to hear if Favorito did his job...
Nana, thank you! I hope she is pregnant, but if not I'm sure Favorito won't mind. :)
Hilary, I am so excited just with the possibility of a foal for next year. Once I am convinced she is pregnant I will start posting foal development info with pictures of her. :)
Bob, he did pretty well for his first time. In the past I have just done pasture breeding. This was a bit different, but it worked. At least it appears that it worked. :) The obvious advantage to managing things this way, is the ability to better predict the time of the foal's arrival.
Lynn, that was priceless! I loved the link, and your article! Poesia fortunately didn't need any. :)
Marsha, we sure do hope she concieved! Thanks for the good wishes!
Tonia, you will have to have alot of tents set up down there come April! Or at least alot of lawn chairs. We will have a heck of a campfire and feast going for anyone attending the grand event!
Psst..I wasn't really so fearless. I was winging it. Wasn't Favorito so gentlemanly though!
Marilyn, Thanks for commenting! I'm glad you enjoyed.
I know you keep your horses in excellent health. Will this be Poesia's last pregnancy?
I sure would like to be present to witness at least one birthing. I've never seen anything being born. I hear it is memorable.
MK I will keep you posted.
Pam, it will likely be her last, but, not certainly. We will see how she does. She weathers her pregnancies, and deliveries very well. Hopefully you can come for foal patrol 2008, and actually catch the moment!
Krissy, my favorite thing is watching them try to lay back down after they have played awhile! Well, maybe not my favorite..everything about a new foal is my favorite!
Robin, thanks! Stay tuned for more news!
Debbie, you can bet the baby will be well photographed!
I'll keep checking in to read the updates!
