posting and points....ugh

SOme days are easier then others to get points. When I was doing my 3000 points for a month, I learned that connections and groups really boosted my points. Not sure if that still works but it did for me. Remember, sometimes it takes a little bit to get all the points, so maybe you have earned more then you think, they just aren't processed. Good luck.

Points don't effect me one way or the other.... I just write and comment, connect and join where I see fit.

They do take time to show up. It's better to just enjoy your visit and look at the points as a bonus.

I know what you mean. I don't understand the point system either. I don't think that 3000 a month is possible, but some people have made it. I am really enjoying everyone here though. I have gotten a lot of information on different things.

Some days I get 15 or so, others I get about 30

I have been working to get up to 3000 points. 5 more to go!!

I have joined lots of groups and lots of friends and put in tags on everything I rate most articles 7-10 rarely do I not rate an article or give one below 7. Watched pot or not they increase slowly. It has to do with people commenting on your articles and visa versa as well as posting. But I can write 500 articles and get points for writing but if I only get 5 comments then I am not gaining much and that has been the problem. I don't know why people are not reading as much but I think some of them have left gather than used to read and others new don't understand they have to leave comments on other folks articles not just rate them. There are tons of reasons I have yet to make it but I think some just spin out and get points from people comments on two line questions of favorite color or candy bar. I put it to a test yesterday and got 40 comments on candy bars and 29 on cars and 5-11 on all my other articles on the average. So what is Gather turning into a place for questions, answers and game players? When I joined in November clear through January I had a good readership following and it has fallen way way off. I didn't think I would leave Gather but I might now anyway. It is becoming less and less friendly and a new bunch of people have come in that are into games more than anything. Not everyone but a lot or they want to start fights and argue politics and push one sort of agenda or another be it abortion, gay rights, Bush bashing, troops in Iraq or what have you. It is people like Ernie and Elsie and Kelly W. Jadan x. mariane Bridget , Tomi and some few others than keep me here. Some of my friends left quite a few actually and sadly.

Rhonda you have to earn all 3000 points in a month to get a cash pay out. Not just 3000 points.

I agree with Lainie, I try to enjoy my visit and meet new people and learn new things.

It sure does appear to go slowly. That is why I like to only check it at most once a day. It seems to be a bigger increase when I do that. At least appearance wise than wasting my time frustratingly looking to see if it has increased.

There's a way to work the system all the way around. I figured it out and my point total increases all day...average about 125 points a day.

I don't pay much attention to points on a daily basis. Once in a while I would realize how many I had and decide whether to cash them in or continue on.........
As others have said: a watched pot....and all that!

Thanks for the info Jennine. I am aware of that though. I am not on enough to try for a pay out. I am just looking for Home Depot cards.

Rob, are you just teasing us, AGAIN???? I have been on here well over a month... I don't post as often as most... but I guess I want to really have something to say before wasting everyone's time. (Which you would never do Rob - your stuff is always A1)... But some days I will read and comment all day - 8 to 10 hours straight and get like 10 points???? But I have noticed sometimes it takes a while to add up... so maybe some take longer to get there.
I didn't join for the points though, didn't even know about them when I joined. So I just read what I want, rate what I want, comment everywhere!, post when I want and generally just have a good time.

I hear ya, I'm in the same boat but I think if I keep plugging along, something will happen. And really, I'm just here for the fun, the commenting on cool stuff [like you!], seeing what other people have to say and the gorgeous photos that people take and upload to gather. Have you noticed how many talented photographers there seems to be in gather? It's just all sort of fun. Good luck!

Oh yes, if you haven't already read them, read Rob Appell's articles on the point experiment he did last month, I think? Maybe the month before. He really did figure out the point system, now if we can all follow his formula! Me, I am way too lazy but I loved his articles so if you get a chance....

All Grist for the mill. If you are just here for the points, it will be very frustrating. I waste more time checking to see if I earned anything anywhere yet. I should be spending that time writing a book or something, not checking my shadow to see if it's grown an inch yet.

I know the feeling, I can't seem to get the points, either, but I think I've figured out a way to do this.

I was feeling that way also and now it doesn't bother me because I really enjoy reading the articles and commenting on them.

I have noticed that sometimes the points don't show up til the next day. I try not to worry about it and just concentrate on having fun.

I've noticed that sometimes points are just slower to post some days than others. I do want to let you know that I am now on the cash option because I was able to earn 3000 in one month.
