Courage.
Throughout history people have taken the risk to stand up for what they believe in and not back down. The cowardly lion went to the Wizard to get courage in the movie 'The Wizard of Oz". Here are five courageous people and what they did. Perhaps after reading it you could add some names to the list.
- Nicoli Copernicus. Everyone said the earth was the center of the universe. As science began to show that the earth orbited the sun, others chose to stay silent. Not this Polish astronomer. He stood tall and proclaimed the sun to be center of our solar system and faced the ridicule of the church.
- Christopher Columbus. The world wasn’t flat and Columbus took the dare to prove it. Of course he was looking for a short cut to the trade riches of India. He also proved that Capitalism and discovery can work together.
- Martin Luther. Again a man of principle stands up to the Catholic Church. This time against the selling of indulgences to buy your way into heaven (among other things). Protestantism was born and the world changed.
- Susan B. Anthony. She took up the cause of the Constitution as Martin Luther King Jr. would years later. Her insight and courage forced the United States to accept woman’s suffrage and a constitutional amendment (19th) that gave woman the right to vote.
- Martin Luther King Jr. He believed that just as was written in the Constitution… A-L-L men are created equal. His perseverance against a racially divisive attitude in 1960s America has equalized the playing field for not only African Americans, but also American’s of all colors, shapes and sizes.
Take the time to add a name to this list of Courageous People of history.
