spring day on the farm, with a special emphasis on peach blossoms

we were at my parents farm last weekend...and finally, spring has sprung! it was so glorious out - the peach trees were abloom, the dogs were happy, and lillie was ecstatic. come along!

first, lillie was coloring the sidewalks, stairs, and guard lions....

 my favorite fruit is the peach. i just look at this gorgeous blossom and think of a juicy, ripe peach. yum, yum...

the bees were swarming the trees, so i was grateful for the telephoto lens! still, it was a glorious show of life, cycles, and the miracle of spring.

we drove the golf cart out to the pond. no tadpoles yet, although belle was chasing frogs!

we checked the rhubarb patch, to see if it was ready to cut yet. ah, delicious pies! lillie saw her first live snake! he was around a lot that weekend...

nature's bounty shows itself in so many forms - the tulips, flowering trees, or the ever-present dandelions. do you like butter?

and lillie was in heaven, playing on her swingset. she did all sorts of tricks on the slide. we just sat and watched the show. spring on the farm? life is good!

i love chickens! really. i'm fascinated by them. i want to move to the middle of nowhere so i can have lots of them.

i've got lots of pictures from my FL vacation coming for you (including one of a chicken!) -- alas, Gather wants me to do some work before i play. imagine that! ; )

My Tuck likes to go frogging too...though he never catches any. Glorious time on Grampa's Farm!!!
What a blessing to have a farm available for visiting! I envy you and am glad that you all had such a great time.
Excellent photo essay. And it's not only the flowers that are blooming, Lillie is getting cutier every darn time you send us pictures of her. Marvelous. I wish I lived closer, I would have loved to make this trip with you.

I enjoyed virtually visiting the farm. I, too, love peaches and am glad that your parents have bees to pollinate the flowers--I've heard bees have vanished from many places. Years from now, Lillie is going to remember the happy times at the farm and think to herself, "Life was good."

Every picture you have shown, along with the imagined images of myself touching and feeling this texture or that, warms my heart immensely...except for the snake of course. Nice photo essay! Wish you could come up with a coffee table version of this.

Incredible, Jessie. I do hope you get together a coffee table book. I've never seen a peach blossom; lo, I have not lived. You are great to have a telephoto lens, it saves you from disaster like bees and snakes. And gets you into the closeups you otherwise wouldn't have.

Enjoyed your photo essay. Was surprised by the snake, (never been a fan of them although understand they have a purpose!) The image of the peach blossums with the bee was exciting to see. Thanks for sharing.

I live in Michigan also but in the city so I don't see this much of nature's Blessing's. But I do have a very large backyard and it is filled with rose bushes and all types of flowers. And I have many visting creatures including a Pergine Falcon that come's by to kill a squrriel for lunch. The Humane has been to my house twice trying to catch him but he flys up into a tree and then away. We have given him a name we call him "Willie". Also Raccoons and a couple of Brown Rabbits mix with the neighborhood cats and dogs. Your daughter's are very beautiful....

The first time I saw a snake, I was Lillie's age, and it was right next to me under my favorite pine tree. I screamed bloody murder and my dad came running with his shotgun, only to find out it was a 12" garter snake. By the time my mom and baby brother who was wearing a half pinned diaper got there, Daddy had put the snake across the road and told it loudly for my benefit to go play on the golf course. Mom and Dad ran a private country club for theater people from NYC. I also met a fawn and its mom a few weeks later. It was great growing up in the country. Oh, and today? I love snakes and we've had several of them as pets...gopher or rat snakes are so friendly and love to curl up on your warm skin and go to sleep. I rather think that with your guidance, dear Lillie wouldn't dream of screaming at a harmless little reptile. :-)

Dear Miz Jessie - and Miz Lillie - my sweet little friend - these are purely a delight! Thank you Miz Jessie for sharing such a special photo essay showing the seasonal gifts that your parents farm present to you and Miz Lillie and Ed. I love how you've designed this piece showing Lillie painting the lions and then on to the flowering bushes and the chickens - each shot is unique and truly your style! I love what you wrote about each one and even seeing the snake - Miz Lillie's favorite is special. She won't forget any part of her life because you've captured so many moments in photographs - I've seen her grow up seemingly overnight but just in one year, Miz Lillie has grown~ She's not that little girl anymore - she's becoming a lady! I think I would love to visit that farm as I love country life and being outside - tromping around in the dewey grass and finding so many little treasures here and there...also, my dogs would be going crazy in that pond! Thanks again, my dear friend, for this lovely piece which honors Mother Nature at her best. Salud.

Jessie, what a wonderful pht essay. Lillie is so lucky to have a farm to call her own, even if it is only whenever she visits her grandparents. Growing up, even part time, on a farm is such an amazing experience, and I know she will treasure these memories from the farm forever.

I was good till I got to the snake! So the blossoms look healthy let's hope the peach crop does as well.
