In Search of a Title - help!

I am trying to help someone find a book from a vague description.

"a childrens' book about a girl who when she spins on the spot, finds herself in a magical land where she can talk to animals. The book was made into a TV series apparently"

Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Dr.Dolittle 2 or 3 may have been made into a book the girl didn't go into magical land but she can talk to animals though.

There was a show on Nickelodeon called "The Wild Thornberrys" Her parents make animal documentaries and Eliza and her sister Debbie travel with them all over the world. There is also a wild boy (Donnie?) and a monkey who travels with them. As the result of a shaman's magic spell, Eliza is able to talk to animals, but there is a catch: if she tells anyone, the spell will be broken and she will no longer be able to talk to animals. I don't know if this is based on a book, but I will try to look into it.

Somebody suggested this on a different site, but I don't really think that is it either. I guess it could be, but I don't know if that was based on a book, either. Thanks for the comment!

Someone else suggested Pippi Longstocking - I don't remember her having to turn on the spot to talk to animals, but it's been many years since I read the books....
It doesn't sound familiar at all to me but that it resembles a book I once read where a girl leaned at an odd angle and thus slipped into a 4th dimensional realm where everything was terribly confusing to look at that I also cannot remember the title of.

I think remembering the year or time frame she may have read the book during would help in the search by far. Is there any other information she can provide about this book that may help us help her to search for it, pray tell?
