How many books on your bookshelf?

I have about 50 so far, but my collection keeps on expanding. I love having lots of books there, but I'm also terribly cheap and don't like wasting money, so most of the books I have gotten were from English professors in my college who were retiring and were cleaning out their library.

I love books. I love to read them, collect them and just look at them. I have many more than 50, but have never counted them. Good luck on your collection!

I have lots and lots and lots of books. Many more than 50! Another good place to find them cheap is at yard and garage sales! You can find some real treasures for hardly nothing!!

Oh my, I wish I could have just 50! I have about 250 at the moment. This is after a couple of months of culling. Still, back in 1989 when I moved out of a larger home, I had to get rid of over 2000, so I guess my present number isn't totally out of hand.

I just went to a book sale, I am guessing but I would say about 100, most of my books once I have read them though, I give away, I just do not have the room to store them, but I love to read, especially on a long winters night after I have taken a nice hot bath, I love to put on my pjs, climb on the couch with a good book. I learned at and early age, that books can take your imagination anywhere, and you never have to leave the room.

I have WAY TO MANY books, but keep bringing more home. Not going to go count them, but conservatively, over 2500.

Bookshelf? What bookshelf?!?

Try under both beds, in the extra fridge (that is unplugged), the sideboard, the closet, etc!

I am a big fan of the local booksales and always come home loaded down. After I read them, I keep the fav's and classics, and re-donate the others.
I probably have close to 1500 books. They are my passion and I have been collecting them since about the fifth grade-all hardbacks. I could HONESTLY start my own library! LOL (And yes! I have read them all! Most more than once!)

If I believed in the concept, too many. My books have long since overflowed my bookshelf and taken over my computer desk and are now taking up floor space. I have no idea how many books I have, but I have multiple boxes of them, some are even still at my fathers (I haven't lived with him for about 10 years) and some are with my ex 2800 miles away.

I really need more bookshelves.

I have lots of books. I had to get rid of some to save space, but I kept the ones that are dear to me. Now my daughter has books that are creeping out of her room. I had to start going to library so there would be a place for them to go after I read them. I still love to find a good bargain on them though.

I have several thousand books, mostly bought used. Some I sell on Amazon and Half.com; some are "to keep." The sad thing is that most of them are unread -- I buy them to read, but then I keep checking others out of the library to read. I'm addicted to the library!

Oh! Thanks for the reminder! I had forgotten there WAS a bookshelf under those piles of books. How come you didn't ask how many books are on the dressers, kitchen table, living room table, entertainment center, coffee table, in the bags, in the car, etc., etc. Every so often I go through my books to get rid of the ones I'm never going to read or read again. Every single time, I put them back.

If I had the time to count them. I just read them. Lately, as my eyes are not as good, I have turned to cds to hear them but i still have to buy the book, so I highlight my favorite parts. Did anyone every ask you, "What is your favorite book?" I start rattling off until they walk away.

LOL well lets see I have three book selves in my bedroom, one in my granddaughter's bedroom, two in the dining room, one large one in my son's room, three in the living room. Guesstimate of all the books we have 3200 give or take few. We buy books and have lots and get more, some we sell or give away but we love books and encourage reading in our home and we all read a lot.

Reading is the best thing that I've ever known.I really love books.They've been changing my world totaly.I have about 150_200 books which all of them have been chosen so careful and exact from very different authores.their MASTERPIECE!...such a lovely matter to comment.thank you SIGRIET!

I never counted them all? I love books, too, and I'm pretty sure there are a few boxes somewhere that aren't on the bookshelf. The bookshelf is two layers deep in places, and there are stacks of books under each night stand!

I am a mega abnorm extreme reader so I simply have to use second hand and libraries as much as possible, both for lack of place to store and for financial reasons. LOL I know where the second hand shops are in Newcastle, Glasgow, London, Ludlow, Edinburgh etc etc in other words all the places I have visited in UK. That is only in Uk - I live in Norway hehe. I bring only very little weight going out whenever I am travelling. The iarplane quota is usually filled to the brim with books on return. These days I am in agony because I want both books and art supplies.

These days I do not read that much fiction as I used to since I work on my art.

I have no idea how many books we have. When we moved I had to get rid of alot of them. They are still in boxes because we don't have anywhere to put them. However, I have bought several books since we have been back and they are piled in my bedroom. I really have to sit down and start reading again. It is so hard for me to find the time sometimes.

I'm with quite a few others here. I've given boxes and boxes to the library, but still they are everywhere. If I had to guess I'd say around 2 or 3 hundred. I also like a bargain and get a lot of books at sales and at the library when they sell their excess books.

congrats on your library - i have a bunch as well - and many more boxed up - was an ebay seller of little golden books before I moved 6 months ago - have about 700 of just those boxed up - not to mention the "others", lol......good question

It looks like I'm in the right place with all of you bilbiophiles. In the US, we have 8 bookcases in our upstairs family room, 1 in the boys' room, and 1 in the girls' room. We've lived here two years and we have a bookcase downstairs, 2 small cabinets and a closet with three shelves all full(homeschool curriculum). The kids also have between 20 and 50 books in their rooms and our bedside tables are overflowing. We so frugal about everything else but books are our weakness.

We just moved and had to sell our collection as they were too heavy and we didn't have enough room in the car. But we'll start collecting again soon and then I'll come back and say how many we have.

I have probably 100 on this shelf in my office and about 50 on a smaller shelf and 30 near my reading chair and about 50 cookbooks - some photos line my plate area around my breakfast nook - oh so many books and so little time - I just can't get rid of any books...I took a bunch to Isabel my other house and have many down at mama's house on the bayous - I'm hopeless - nice to meet another book worm! Salud.

'Books are your best friends' I gave books to friends as presents; I gave them with return that never happened; i left them in my various house moving and are still where I left them with friends; i bought cheep pprecious books in the mecca of second hand books in a little town of Hey on Wye, near north Welles; I got very expensive books some with me, some by friends; our selves are increasing in number and so do the books of our mixed choices; there are books that I never finished to read; there are few books that I read alternatively before falling asleep; there are several hundreds of them. And yes, i got also some books for free - a publisher near us after closing down set them in cartoon boxes on the street with a large not: 'for free'

I would be afraid to count my books. I would read all the time if I could. I wish I could make a living reading books. One of the things that drew me to Gather was the book gift cards. (I figure that the cash is beyond my reach) Congrats on the collection. I hope that you ehnjoy it as it grows.

I probably have a few over 50 but less than 100. I work at a bookstore so I have to be really careful about getting too excited about reading...I wouldn't bring home a paycheck! >;)

I have loads of stories about books in my life, some good, some bad. Right now I have about fifty books in my library and most of my library is at the bottom of my clothes closet. Let me look around my living room and see what few books I have in here. To the left of this typewriter is a Websters, on a bookshelf to the right of this desk is a concise Columbia Encyclopedia, a copy of "The Gospel Of Judas" (haven't read it yet,) some phone books. I'm allowed one small shelf in our entertain center for a few books, let me turn and first count: four books, the largest on the bottom is my wife's gigantic copy of a Beatles Book, on top of that is a book on "Animal Rights,' Above that is a copy of the "Torah" and above that is a definitive book on Chinese Philosophy. Last book in our china closet, between two giant ceramic cats is the Holy Bible. Maybe I'll mention more later. When I was eleven years old I kind of made the major networks and newspapers because of something that I helped to do to a New York Library...Bit of a frame up...that was in April 1959...ext., etc.

I have around 3,000 and still going. When we moved, I took over one of the large bedrooms and now have wall-to-wall bookshelves and my own personal library. It's wonderful to just go in there and sit....just like a library. There's nothing better than a good book.

Frugality in collecting literary works is nothing to be ashamed of and for the amount of professors who gave me some of their works, I am merely quite grateful. 50 wow thats great, I think I have about that but many in boxes cause no money for cases to shelve them on . . . I do want this one on it though (after I return it to the library I will save for this one)
