Mother’s day is always on a Sunday and this year is no exception. It falls on Sunday May 13 for the year 2007. Each year, this day is set apart to honor all mother’s. As I was pondering the upcoming Mothers day, I was thinking of all the women who for some reason were not able to have children of their own. Why should they be left out of the celebrating and honoring, that has been traditional for years? They shouldn’t because each of us have a different definition of what a “mother’ is to us.
In order to understand Mothers Day, we must first understand what it really means to be a mother. You need to understand the person in your life who has held the title of “Mother”. For me, The following describes my mother and I am thankful every day for her strength and love. While growing up, I did not see how much she loved me and only wanted the best for me. I have only come to appreciate this as I have grown older and hopefully wiser. The following is what my mother is to me. This is my definition of “Mother”.
What is a Mother?
A mother is one who nurtures you in her womb for nine months.
A mother is one who brings you into morality to enjoy the wonderful blessings on earth can give you, this blessing is called “life”.
A mother is one who gently guides you through the infant years and helps you to become the person that you are today.
A mother hold the title of “Guardian Angel” because she protects and supports you. She silently serves you in many ways. She cares for you and helps you to mature to be a strong and individual person. She smiles a smile that i warms your soul and you feel safe. She takes pride in every new accomplishment that you make because in her heart, she knew you could do it.
Why is Mother’s day only once a year when a Mother cares for you every day while you are growing up to full maturity.?
Mother’s Day is a day that has been set aside to honor and thank the person who helped to make you what you are today.
Mothers Day is the day that we should feel grateful to Heavenly Father who has blessed us with an angel that we call “Mother”. A wonderful woman who gave more than she ask in return.
The National Retail Foundation predicts Mothers Day is a $14 Billion industry.
Florists see their highest sales in May.
US restaurants claim that it is the busiest day of the year. Long distance telephone calls also peek on Mothers day.
The US Postal Service experiences increased volume during the surrounding days.
According to Hallmark, 96 % of American consumers take part in shopping on Mother’s Day, while retailers report it as the second highest gift giving day of the year only to be outdone by Christmas.
Why is it that we feel the need to spend money instead of time with our mother?
Remember the women in your life who has made a positive impact on the person whom you have become. Remember to take the time this mother’s day to say the simple words “Thank You”. Because there were probably many times that you did not show the gratitude that this women deserved. I know in my life, this is true.

I am the oldest of six children myself and like you, I have a new appreciation for my mother.
Thank you so much for bringing that to my attention.
Thank you.
Thanks for taking the time to read it.
I hope you get a restful day with your family.
I totally agree. I know a women that I go to church with and she adopts kids. She has given 2 daughters a home and a safe enviroment to grow up. I admire her very much
Thank you for taking the time to read it and comment on it. :)
I am one of those women who have not been blessed with children, although I had wanted them so terribly. Reading this made me feel better, as mother's day has been difficult the last few years. Thank you for giving me a new way to embrace it.
I am so sorry for the loss of your mother. My husband lost his mother a few years ago to cancer also. We have been married for nearly 29 years so she was like a mother to me too. So I understand how you feel when you loose a mother.
I am glad that this made you feel better.
There is a saying that goes something like this:
A hundred years from now,
It will not matter how much money you have
It will matter who much time you gave
To a child
You can make such a difference in a childs life even if you do not give birth to them.
I hope you can Have a wonderful Mother's day and know that you have made a difference to a child.
I have two biological daughters, five biological grandchildren, 2 nieces, 1 nephew, and two sisters.
Right now I am called mother by no less than 10 'daughters and sons' - grandma to 21 grandchildren, etc.
I am so blessed.
When my girls were little, our yard was the one with no grass and a ton of bikes, balls, etc. When we went on field trips all my 'children' wanted to be in my group (my two wanted to be in someone else's group!).
I baked birthday cakes, pierced ears, combed hair, braided hair, fixed ponytails, washed faces and kissed owies. I was t-ball mom, bowling coach, girl scout and brownie leader... and more little things than I can remember.
I also held two full time jobs and two part time jobs while doing it.
How could I have ever forgotten all this.. But come mother's day, I will again be reminded.
I am so truly blessed.
I just now published it to your group. Thanks for taking the time to read it

It is strange that Father's Day is the same in both countries. I still have my card on my computer desk so will enjoy it twice :)
I was talking to a friend in the UK and she said that they do "mothering day" in March. I had no idea that different countries celebrate Mothers day differently.
Thank you for your comment. I wrote this for my Mom. I am going to give it to her on Mothers Day. Glad that you enjoyed it.
If you have children you're there for them every day. Those that don't have children
show their love to nieces, nephews, children in general. Thanks for sharing this.
Thank You so much for your comment. I know that mothers day should be celebrated every day but that would just spoil us all. LOL

This just breaks my heart. I had a nephew that called me mom and I hated to tell him that I was not his mom. When got a brier in his foot. He wanted me to take it out. He woudl not let anyone else. They had to come to my home to get the brier out. Sad when chidlren dont have a responsible mom.
To me, my mother is my friend, my confidant and is the most wonderful woman in the world. My mom and dad are planning to come for the weekend, can't wait! I will have to make her something special!

Happy Mothers day to you too
To me, a mom means so many things - way too many to even list here in this comment, but first and foremost... MY mom, to me... is my best friend. She is always there for me, no matter what and I know she always will be, no matter what.
Thanks for you comment and your support.
