In search of some help: Can you please tell me which flower photo you like the best?

Our State newspaper is holding a contest for amateur photographers to get a chance at publishing some of their work in a 2008 calendar. Three people have suggested that I enter the contest, which of course makes me feel really good. One was my mother in law, the other was my neighbor and the other person was someone completely surprising: one of my contacts here on Gather! Come to find out he lives here in Oregon, saw the newspaper article and sent me a surprise email telling me that he thinks I should enter. I was really blown away by that and it was a definite boost. 

I just started fooling around with the idea of taking pictures of flowers and plant life in January, so I'm still really, really new at this. Normally I would never do anything like this, but I think I'll give it a shot since it seems like people really like my photos!

This is where all of YOU come in. The newspaper allows us to submit up to 4 photos, one for each season. I need your help in determining which photos I should submit. My plan is to publish a few articles over the next 2 months asking you which one out of the bunch strikes you the most. Then, a few weeks before the deadline, I plan on posting all of your favorites to narrow it down to 4 photos that I'll send in to the newspaper.

**Remember that for right now, you're just picking which one (out of these 3) is your favorite. It will not necessarily be the one that I submit to the contest, but it will get me to that point because the very last article I post will be the one with ALL of your favorites.**

They are all very interesting and well done. I think the composition is the strongest on the first. One of the things that can make for a strong image is when the elements of the photo keeps your eye on the photo. I think the third one pull your eye off the photo.

I strongly suggest you enter the contest.

Definitely #1 for me. I can't really give you a good reason, other than it looks the best to my eyes.

I personally like #2. You see not only most of the flowers, but the close relationship between the two flowers. Pretty philosophical, huh? LOL

No#3, the macro. Could I suggest a flower with more color for saturation?

If you want a better shot, go with #2. It maximizes the use of both subject matters in the picture yet show that shy demureness of the second subject gently attempting to hide, yet blend in and compliment the first subject. It's the prefect distance for capturing both. The other two are too close, blocking the second subject out too much. Just sit and think about it.

they are all very pretty but to enter a contest I think I would want a single bloom. they seam to do better. i would move the flower away from the other one and try a shot of it on its own since its such a beautiful bloom. If i were to choose one of these I would use 1

I like #2 the best. I like the "pair" going on and the touch of blue in the sky shows they are growing outside and the rain on the flowers is a really nice touch.

Boy, the responses are all over the board. My pick is No. 2. I like the horizontal format (it seems to give the flowers some "breathing room") and also really like the contrast of the flower against the bright blue background. Just my two cents....

I really like nuimber 2. I like that is slightly askew, but you can clearly see the definition.

I would say as far as over-all composition and color and most pleasing to the eye, if I were a judge, I'd go for NUMERO UNO! (number one). Salud.

I think #3 makes it look like they're holding hands and it is very unique!

Of course you should enter!! No surprise here that other people think you should enter as well! Good luck and I'll be looking out for the other photo picks too!

#3 is the one that stands out to me!

Photo #1 shows you are dealing with a circular pattern, this would be made stronger printed as a square.
Photo #2 shows you are using the "law of 1/3rds" and this makes for a very strong photo.
Photo #3 you have cut off the edges of your flower centers, because you printed it vertically, I think you have weakened the picture.
Of the 3 pics, nuber two is the strongest, in my huimble opinion.

Photo three is really nice, but the centers are cut off on the edge of the photo. I like the blue in the second photo, however I like photo one the best overall.

So, I vote photo #1.
