The Bush administration wants to spend your tax dollars to
expand destructive logging in Alaska's Tongass National Forest
-- a pristine rainforest haven for grizzly bears, thriving
salmon runs and bald eagles by the thousand.

The deadline to register your opposition to this proposal is
THIS MONDAY!

Thanks. How long Lord, how long. We've been trying to save the Tongass for years and still it is under attack. Reminds me of the stadium issues here. We continually vote them down, then our congress goes ahead on its own to okay and fund them. Wear 'em down seems to be the Bush philosophy. Just keep repeating the same old message and eventually we'll give up.

The Tongess is one of the most beautiful forest I have been in...when Gaelic was small we camped there many summers.

First of all I have to say thank you for this site. I have bookmarked it - this is so what I am into and against and there is so much on that site alone, I already sent every letter I could and will keep checking. It is much more than just for trees.

A very important message, Debbie! If we don't stop destroying natural habitat, there won't be any wildlife left to preserve. Of course, that doesn't seem to bother this administration. I mean, how much space do we need, anyway?? Is it too much to ask to save a few little pieces for the beautiful creatures we share this planet with? Do we really have to clear cut all of it??

It breaks my heart to think what Northern Minnesota looked like before the loggers flattened the great woods in in the mid to late 1800s. By 1920 it was gone, all gone. All to line the pockets of greedy lumber barons.

My voice has been added, and like Susan Marie I've bookmarked and will visit it often. Thankfully, there is a watchdog commitee set up here in the Adorndacks that does a great job of protecting and supervising the loggin for the most part.
