Networking and Gather?

If it's not in excess, I see no problem with it!

I'm usually fine with the networking thing going on. After all, isn't that what the internet is about? But, what I do mind is when they send me a note to my mailbox instead of just publishing an article. If it's someone I am connected to, which is the only type of person who would also send a note it to my mailbox, I get the little message in my yahoo box saying so-and-so has published an article. I don't need another note in my mailbox, which to me, is for close contacts that I communicate with privately (I assume the reason it's called a private mailbox) and the message telling me I've got a message. So, when someone sends me a notice to my private mailbox for something like joining some referral program, I block that sender.

I agree with the email thing. I get tired of having to look at the emails. I want to get to the good stuff! And please, if you are one of my connections, I am going to read your article, so don't email me about it unless it is really important!

Karen doesnt bother me. Many times someone has brought something to my attention that I missed.

I am actually thankful for it, as I have learned alot of interesting things here. I do prefer though to read it in an article rather than recieve it in a message.

I agree with the articles comments. I don't mind the networking, but if someone sends me an email, I prefer it to be something to me. I don't mind the ocassional "bring to your attention" emails but when one has lots of connections, that makes for lots of emails! :-)

I'm with those who object to the emails. If it involves some kind of referral thing or whatnot, I personally don't consider that "networking." I own a business. I network. Watch the business cards disappear, folks! It's like magic!

Anyway, as far as I'm concerned, though, not a lot of what Lori's talking about is really networking as far as I'm concerned. "Networking" would be if, say, I realized a connection of mine was in a similar business to mine and I contacted them to talk about common issues or discuss partnerships or whatnot. Trying to get people to buy stuff I sell would be "marketing." Telling people about ways to make money online that involve you getting a kickback for the referral is... um... I don't know. But I wouldn't call it networking. Recruiting? I don't know.

That said, I don't care what people do in articles or whatever. Send me an email every day about it, and I have a problem with that. I've got enough spam in my inbox already.

Too bad it's not the canned meat kind of Spam. I kinda like that stuff.

To each their own as long as it is an article post and not an e-mail. I have the choice to join or not. I get some good leads on great sites that way.

I don't have a problem with it. I just delete it if it is something I am not interested in.

It doesn't bother me at all. It bothers me more when a writer does not care enough about his or own writing to promote it.

networking is what a community is all about.

I've followed links to good things that would be hard to share on Gather.
I've also had a gatherite solicit my joining another site to get point there. That's what the "block sender" feature is for in our e-mail!
