So many of you have responded to my article "What is your favorite Movie" that I got to thinking about the Wizard of Oz. I am working on compiling a list of the top movies based on your responses, but I can tell already that The Wizard of Oz will be on the list.
It seems that the Wizard of Oz creates for us our own magical memories. For the generation of us who grew up with out owning every kids movie on DVD ever created, we waited each year for the Wizard of Oz to appear on the channel that our parents got by adjusting the rabbit ears on their TV set with care. For me, it was the only occasion besides New Years Eve, that I was allowed to stay up past my bedtime. Everytime I watched it, it has captivated and enthralled me. The music is unforgettable, and the one liners from the movie are timeless.
Lets try a game:
What are some of the one liners that you can name from the moive, The Wizard of Oz. I will start the list in a comment with my favorite line of the whole movie.
Have fun.

Thank you, Vanessa. This is a lovely sentimental journey.
i think thats it. now im going to have to watch the movie today !
When you watch it today, try cueing it up to Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" CD...They sync perfectly.
Oh God, I have to do the Dark Side of Oz every once in a while. When the tornado comes in over top of Great Gig in the Sky..... wow.

Yes, there are many....and like your article, Vanessa, I grew up watching the movie as a kid....God those flying monkeys scared the hell outta me! My kids laugh at that.....with special effects the way they are today, who can tell whats real and what isn't? (damn, everytime, references back to Gather-land ;-)
Sooo, lets start with:
"Care for a little fire, scarecrow?"
"Well, what did you learn, Dororthy?" "I learned that if I ever need to find adventure, I don't have to go any further than my backyard!" (something like that...this is from memory, btw, and that is fading.... :-)
"king kong, the witch is dead!"
"I don't know, Dororthy. Some people without a brain do a lot of talking!"
"Now scarecrow, what do those people have that you don't? A degree! (i.e. they call them think-al-a-gists")"
will think of some more....probably will watch the movie again like melissa.....
;-)
Another great, rarely quoted line!
How about Miss Gulch: "I'm all but lame from the bite on my leg!"
Uncle Henry: "You mean she bit you??"
Miss Gulch: "No, her dog!"
Uncle Henry: "Oh, she bit her dog?"
Dorothy: "Don't be silly, Toto. Scarecrows don't talk."
Wizard: "Frightened? Child, you're talking to a man who's laughed in the face of death, sneered at doom, and chuckled at catastrophe....I was petrified."
Lion: "I can fight you with one paw tied behind my back! Ruff!"
Tinman: "oil...can"
Guardian of the Emerald City: "Nobody can see the great Oz, nobody ever sees the great Oz!"
Dorothy: "Then how do you know there is one?"
and I LOVE the cowardly lion's song, "If I were King of the Forest." that's my favorite.
However, I don't remember any of the lines from this movie at the moment that haven't already been mentioned. I will say, though, that I found a great icon the other day that says "Don't make me get my flying monkeys."
