The Two Word Challenge for the week that began on Sunday, April 22, is "something borrowed."
I borrowed this phrase from the old saying oft told to prospective brides:
"something old, something new
something borrowed, something blue
and a silver sixpence in her shoe."
Apparently, this phrase has been around some time. The British sixpence was minted from silver during the 16th century until 1967. Its worth was six pennies. Rumor has it this tradition began in the Victorian era, when many brides wore blue gowns, not white, to symbolize true love.
So, for this week's Two Word Challenge, use the word pair "something borrowed".
Meaning of the poem:
Each item in the poem symbolizes good luck for the bride. To make her marriage a good one, she must have all four items.
"Something old" represents continuity with the bride's family and the past. "Something new" represents hope for the new life in the marriage. "Something borrowed" is an item from a happily married friend or family member; "Something blue" symbolizes love, modesty and faithfulness, and purity.
Note: Your article does NOT have to be about weddings or marriage.
You can borrow your kid brother (but not your neighbor's kid brother).
You can write about whatever you please in prose or poetry, as long as you include the words: "something borrowed" in your article.
Only images that RELATE DIRECTLY to the Two Word Challenge (in this case, 'something borrowed') will be accepted.
How does the Two Word Challenge Work?
Post your entry to the Two Word Challenge Group (and to any other appropriate groups too, if you like) and tag the article with the two words you are using for your group submission (article or image).
If you do not appropriately tag your entry with the two word pair you are referring to, or include the two word pair in the title of your group submission, your article or image will be declined.
Example: tags: twc, two word challenge, something borrowed
Title: TWC - Something borrowed
All Two Word Challenges need to be kept PG to permit everyone to participate. Interpretations of the Two Words not PG are fine, as long as you flag your article appropriately.
If anyone feels a group submission is inappropriate, feel free to contact Monica Kennedy (daydreambeliever) and cc: (kathryneo).

Rosa, I will have to take a look again at that article. Thanks for mentioning it. I had not returned to see if anybody picked up on my ideas there.
great 2 word challenge!
Mandi, so did my grandmother, born in 1903!!! I wonder how it became that white symbolized purity.
I have to leave now, so if you send them to the group this afternoon, I might not get to them until tonight.
But enjoy anyway.
Thanks for participating.
Congrats dm!
I too, am looking foreward to reading contributions to your ingenious idea and am grateful for the info you provided considering I'm soon to be married- Pauline
