**Game** Originality Counts In This Music Review

I really enjoyed the American Idol Gives Back program tonight. Instead of writing my review, I thought we could play a game.

Each person list your favorite part of the show and see who can come up with the most original review of that segment.

I'm sorry, I don't watch the show. I do watch Heroes, The Riches and Gilmore Girls.

My favorite part of the show was that it did not distract me from the book I was reading, since we have no TV.

To everyone's surprise, including my own, I got a huge kick out of someone I usually loathe: Jack Black. I cringed when I first saw him sitting in the audience; I thought, There's just no way we're gonna get out of suffering him now, and I was right. And then to my disbelief, he became funny. I've never seen Jack Black do anything funny before, except maybe the neocon college kid in "Bob Roberts," so I sat in utter disbelief and laughed as he tore several large holes in "Kiss From a Rose." The bit with the judges was to be expected, of course, but when Seal showed up it made all the difference (I like Seal as much as I usually dislike Jack Black). The judges were all a little loose tonight, a state usually reserved for Paula alone, and it was nice to see them playing along with one another. It could only have been funnier if Bono had been sitting on the other side of the table.

It was also quite nice to see Sanjaya sitting in the audience, where he belongs.

I liked Jack, too. And I enjoyed Ellen (nothing new, I always love Ellen), the Josh Grobin part was wonderful, Il Divo phenomenal as always, and Bridge Over Troubled Water lady (why can't I think of her name) was fantastic.

That's her! I thought she did a great job with it. I was only disappointed that Clay Aiken didn't come out and join her - I expected it every note and it never happened.

Our girl (Lyrical) sang that song at a Kucnich fund raiser a few years ago. She did a nice job with it, too.

Now that you mention, it Kris . . . yep.

OH, I did have some huge expectations during that song. When someone came in and replaced her at the piano, I was so sure it was Elton John. No Elton, no Clay, but I still enjoyed it.

Ahh.. Donna, I enjoyed it enough that I would purchase a video. I don't like music videos, but love watching live performances. If they still aired variety music shows, like Donnie and Marie, Engelbert, Tom Jones, the Mandrell Sisters . . . they way they did when I was young, you'd never see me here on Gather because I'd be sitting in front of the television every night.

Sandy, actually I love live performances. I'm crazy for them. I loved those shows too, Sandy...but more I liked to go around LA and stop into the bars and coffeehouses and hear it face to face. Still something about taped and recorded music that loses me in the translation.

Hmm, I think we may be missing the point of the show - my favorite part is that they brought awareness and are raising a boatload of money for so many people in need. I was very moved.

I really, really liked Ellen challenging rich people to give and making her own donation. That was a cool and effective thing to do.

She's one of those celebs who comes across as someone you could hang out with, which is rarer and rarer these days.

Kathleen, you wait -- if it can happen to me, it can happen to you! I disdained that show for years, but I'm hooked.

I enjoy all of the talent competition shows, especially American Idol and Dance With the Stars. I enjoy talent, and watching people work hard to achieve goals.
