The first time I ever wrote a story and published it on Gather, I felt just like Sally Field when she exclaimed at the Oscars, "You like me! You really like me!". While I am no Oscar-winning screen writer, poet, or anything close to that, I have enjoyed the limelight a few times as I wrote about my Mom's cookbook, the issue of Needed vs. Needy, my question about Why Can't We Be An English Speaking Nation?, as well as my feelings of Growing up Grandma-less. I even took a stab at fiction with my story Love's Last Waltz, with results that surprised even me.
I feel like I have made many new friends by joining and participating in Gather too though. I couldn't possibly name them all, and I like them all equally as well. David Rochester never fails to make us laugh at him, and at ourselves, as we go about our daily lives. He has such a wicked sense of humor, that you cannot help but laugh out loud as he relates his latest adventure.
In the wunderkind category of writers is Søren Rask. I don't think I could "describe" him here, but trust me, just read him. And, do not miss his photos!
Some other favorite writers are: Jude Cowell, Rob Appell, High Flying Spider Woman Liz Rice-Sosne, Corina Carrasco, Elsie Duggan, Lori (Dr Devience) Leidig, Mike Firesmith, and many more. (If you are not on this list, it is because I got tired, not because I don't like what you write.)
You have made me laugh, cry, think, and feel your pain or joy. My opinions have been altered when we have been able to have adult conversations if we have a difference of opinion. The men have surprised me a bit with their deeper understanding of women than I might have thought possible. The women have been able to show the depth of their intelligence that usually goes unnoticed and unrewarded in our everyday world.
For me, Gather is like "Cheers". You know you can go there anytime and find your friends, exchange dialog, come away with a new thought and some new writing inspiration also. Oh, and if your writing stinks, they will let you know about that too! What are friends for, after all?

This was nice Webduck!
My brain is beginning to wilt.
So . . does this mean I can just post this when I see your posts:
Duck . . .
(said slow and in unison, all of Gather upon every post, raising glass occasionally)
