I read today that the cave men featured in the Geico commercials are shooting a pilot for FX. The show doesn't have a title yet, but it will feature the three cave men that have spots in Geico's successful "It's so easy a cave man can do it" campaign. The story will be a comedy and will focus on the problems cave men living in modern-day Atlanta have.
Geico has really scored some huge marketing successes in the last five years. Not only have their commercials won awards, it has succeeded in carving out a decent market share in the high competitive and fiercly loyal insurance market. One thing of interest...market studies show that almost everyone can identify the Gieco lizard and the cave man as being connected to the insurance company. But they basically serve a logo/branding purpose. The ads really don't go into much detail on how reliable the service is, how much money you'll save or even how to do it. (Although we do know it's easy.)
I've been trying to think of a t.v. show that was inspired by a commercial and I'm drawing a blank. Surely this isn't the first one.
Anyone else know of a commercial that launched a television show? Will you be watching the cavemen?
