I am not sure he should of lost his job. Possibly suspended. Talking about it or discussing possible solutions. So it wouldn't happen again. I wouldn't have a problem with. But re-inactment...yes...it would bother me. I think it is to soon.

From what I read, he wasn't at VT but at Emmanual College

I think from what he said, he had explained to some degree what was going to happen, then held a discussion afterwards to talk over the lesson. Maybe it was too soon, but then the best time to do many things like this, is as soon as possible afterwards.
But I do have to agree with the others, that we only haav limited information to this and more info is needed.

Now there is one point he made that does make a lot of sense. In whaich he did say they talked about, and was part of the demonstration to fight back and the use of force when needed. I wonder if this is the Crux of why he was fired? I know it is illegal to carry weapons in school, and he infact made a pro statement for allowing this.
I don't know, not enough info, just my views.

Is this guy for real? I kind of got the vibe that he was a little "off" himself.
My point of view is if you have practiced Buddism then there really isn't a need to act out something like that in the strange way he did.I believe in many philosophies of Buddism, teaching those philosophies is good,not pointing a pen at young adults and saying bang!Maybe he should have renacted in a different way along with an emergancy type training to get the kids to saftey.I don't know,that is just strange.

Like i said I'm in between, but I favor freedom of speech, maybe I would have suspended him for a period of time and set some guidelines, in any case It would be interesting to hear the opinions of the families whom losts their kids in the massacre.

Heaven forbid we should acknowledge violence for what it is and meet it head on, the better to address our students' fears. These are college students, not kindergartners, and it was a dry erase marker. Further, they were informed ahead of time what was going to happen. I am fairly sure that if he failed one of them for not being able to tolerate having a marker pointed at them with someone saying "bang" so they left before it began, the administration would have taken care of it.

Absolute whiney baby nonsense. If Junior's psyche can't stand that, even in the wake of a school shooting, Junior needs to be somewhere other thsn college.

NO! He should not have been fired for expressing his opinion on the over exposure of the VA Tech incident by the media. He made reasonable sense to me and if the University wanted to put a written warning in his file so be it, but don't fire him. Thinking American – English speaking - professors are needed in this country. I hope he is hired by another university this summer.

I agree Sumner, every life should be considered precious once a year or everyday.
the teacher had poor chioce of words or has little reguard for life, in any case I think he treated the whole situation lightly, if his own family had been affected by the massacre I think he would have not acted this way.
