Is there anyone else out there like me who just longs for the "good old days", growing up pure "country"?
Love to run bare-footed through the old corn fields and breath that country air. The old swimmin hole. Big old country breakfasts, even on weekdays, with smoked ham steaks and bacon, eggs, frits, corn "fritters" and fried "taters". Mmmmm! Oh and the fresh country biscuits with homade butter slathered all over. And same for sweet old skillet-fried corn cakes (cornbread). Bluegrass station playing on top of the fridge in the kitchen, never shut off!
Walkin a mile through the woods to catch the schoolbus. Barn dances & barbeques! Ridin the tractor plowin up the fields in spring. Smells of fresh turned dirt and fresh cut hay in the summer. Shooting daddy's shotguns & rifles back in the fields and woods. Fishin... Tryin moonshine for the very first time.
Oh, and the boy down the road...
Where'd it all go so fast and why? Brings a tear...

You grew up, found a job you probably hate and have to pay bills every month, responsibilities you never had, you do now, gas is $2.89 a gallon, sex isn't all it's chalked up to be, we're at war and our families, friends are dying, we have a dickhead for a president and morons in his cabinet and 32 people were just slaughtered in your state. Not to mention the fact the boy down the road more than likely turned out to be an asshole...Welcome to reality!!!
Look at the bright side, From the looks of your pics, you have a lot of options!!!
it really gets depressing.
do you suppose we'll never get that back, even for our children?
The children aspect is the most important....I weigh that every day, I worry about it every day. The only thing we can, I can do as a parent is love, nurture, educate and give my daughter everything that I possibly can to help her grow and be a productive part of this society. Hopefully, she'll make an impact in her own unique way and make this country just a little better than it is...
candace, you are very sweet! oh, i've got the heritage livin- no kids to pass to- yet!

Welcome to Gather.

We would float on inner tubes down the Yakima river, fish on rattlesnake ridge, try to avoid gardner snakes at Ashbaugh Park, and homicidal geese and ducks at Sportsman's park.
The Central Washington State Fair still awards prizes for the best animals and produce. People still go up into the mountains to shoot things.
But it seems to want to be something it's not, while simultaneously resisting change, and has thereby changed. Would you help to capure its essence?
I love the good ole cold snowy morning when I would wake up to a large breakfast. Just like you described in your article.
Oh the memories you brought back. Running through the creek and playing in the bran loft. Oh what fun.
Cassie the only thing that is constant is change. It seems one of the prices we pay for conveniences and modern technology is a loss of innocence and appreciation for the the simpler and sweeter aspects of our world.
I can definitely lend a hand with that recipe you were inquiring about Cassie......
One of the most serene things in the world is the woods after a large snowfall the silence is almost palpable and the unspoiled of the white veil covering everything is unlike anything else. At least for me.
Nice article Cassie
Got it BlownAfart ???
You got a problem with banjo players or something ?
I have never wanted to be country. I grew up in a town of about 14,000 people where everyone new everyone and you could walk downtown to the movies. I have always accepted the new technology with zest. I love computers, cell phones and dish washers. I wish I could afford that little vacuum to take care of my floors. That is what makes the world great, everyone is looking for something different.
Leti..have you lost your ability to read English ? I advised you on another thread not to use that " word " ! You may offend some handicapped person for goodness sakes ! lol
Wow! Racists get featured on Small Town and County Living. Mr. Tom, that's really bad PR! Oh, wait, I guess that propagates ugly stereotypes...very sad. :(
Are you referring to the word "RETARD"? Just askin'! :}
