And what you would say, dear Webduck, if I tell you that some of our Duma members seriously consider the legislation prohibiting married (sic!) women from making abortion without their husbands' agreement confirmed by written document? Do they hold us Russian women for imbeciles who need a guardian, or what?... :-( Now, take into attention that our Russian church is violently anti-choice, even in cases when a woman's life is endangered; that many of our women, especially in villages and little towns, are ignorant about modern contraception, and the level of alcohol abuse is so high among our men that many mothers are forced to make abortion or to leave their newborns in a hospital, since they simply can't afford to bring children up in such surroundings. And our politicians, worried by the present demographic crisis, tend to view women as pawns in their game... in short, the picture I couldn't call too optimistic... I can only hope that the voices like yours will be heard.

I am as angry as you, Webduck. My ex-husband used to say that if men could become pregnant, abortion would be a sacrament. Maybe that's a little off, but the sentiment is right. Who gave the federal government the right to legislate based on morality? Oh, right - the Supreme Court. Argh!!!

They tried doing something like that (permission) here a few years ago, but it never went anywhere. I wasn't aware of the current restrictions because abortion was much more common during the Soviet era. I know that the Orthodox Church is as much against abortion as the Roman Catholic Church. This may be another cause in the upswing of children in orphanages.

This decision, derision, and legislation is a petty and bitter attack rooted from the Christian Wrong who will be even more bitter when their daughters have complications from second term abortions because the partial birth option was not available to them and neither was the proper sex education to prevent unwanted pregnancy in the first place.

A women's body is her's what she does with it is her choice.

Abortion is murder no matter how much you want to justify it. An unborn child is still a human being with as much right as the mother carrying it. They have a right to life. Murder is murder. Period. I do not see any justification to murder a child even for the mother's sake. I don't get some of the people who are willing to murder an unborn child but fight and scream to save the life of a serial killer on death row. There are thousands of people who want to adopt a baby if the child is unwanted. But as to complications. Usually most can be addressed and rarely very rarely anymore does an abortion need to be done to save the life of a mother. Most fetuses can survive in incubators until big enough and strong enough to go home as early as five months along now. I am glad the supreme court decided what they did for once they have acted wisely. As to it is our body. Our female body was made wonderfully to carry a child and to protect and nuture that child not murder it. I had a complicated pregnancy and refused treatment the doctor wanted me to do. I did lose my son later. He could have lived that is another story but I did not abort him. How selfish to want to save YOUR life over a child's life. At least you had a life. You would not be here if your mother had decided you were a risk or inconvience and aborted you. I would be sad if my daughter had complications in her second trimester and if she died I would deeply mourn her and I pray that never happens but she and I both agree the child is first. As to proper sex education i todays society it is available to most anyone who chooses to read, listen, get on the net that is no excuse. People make choices to either be safe or not to have sex or not. The child concieved did not have the choice. All children are a gift from God. You talk about bitterness. You have no idea the bitterness that will occur one day for murder.

Dear Sveta: I would say that this insanity is worldwide!

When I was 31 I had to get my husband's "permission" just to get my tubes tied. He was unwilling to get a vasectomy, and yet, he still wanted to have sex with me! We had already decided not to have more kids (we had an 8 year old son at the time) but he wasn't willing to have any part in contraception except to maybe wear a condom. I was having terrible migraines from being on the pill to the point of debilitating, so I went ahead with the surgery. When it came time to sign the papers for the surgery, he had to sign too, and the moron was pissed that he had to agree to it and sign. I was the one going through the surgery! Grrrr! Obviously, this STILL makes me mad.

... And I don't understand bigots who are ready to shout all around the world that the abortion is murder, but don't hesistate to send their soldiers to another country that never was theirs and where they definitely don't belong!... I don't understand those who, in the name of "unborn children" (who in fact are no more but fetuses which can't exist outside of their mothers' bodies) persecute and kill doctors who perform abortions. I can't understand those who made so much noise over the poor Terry Schiavo, but would never raise a hand to protect an Iraqi child. And, most of all, I don't understand those poor brainwashed women who take all this rhetoric seriously, forgetting that they're themselves are nothing more but the victims of the patriarchy that controls their lives, their bodies - and, what is more important - their purses.

The only act that has occurred is the banning of the process of dilating the cervix to extract the fetus whole to a certain point. All this policy does is force doctors to rip the fetus apart while still in the womb to extract in pieces. That makes a whole lot of sense.

It is truly sad that there are those who would force their personal and religous beliefs on others...one way or another. Any attempts to legislate morality, as the Supreme Court has just done, is totally wrong.

That is very true Spartan. If someone really understands what the ban is really doing and they are truly supporting it, they are hoping to bring injury to a small percentage of women seeking second-trimester abortions by forcing their doctors to bring their instruments in and out of the womb increasing the health risk exponentially. Doctors who took the oath to save lives must now use a more hazardous method because the GOVERNMENT told them to. The Christian Fascists have a direct line to the President. We should be very concerned over the health of current supreme court dissenting members. The Christian Fascists have less than two years to compose the SCOTUS with the people they need to overturn Roe v Wade which they are already predicting will happen.
