I was recently emailed and asked how did I acquire so many connections in the short time I have been a Gather member. He also suggested that I write an article about how to get more connections so that more people are able to read your articles.
So, Here goes my article.
At this current moment I have 561 Friends, Family and Collegues. I spent quite a bit of time searching for connections and allowing others to connect to me. I have written articles that I though would be of interest to others and still have quite a few more articles up my sleeve that I will soon be publishing. Here is what I specifically did to earn the amount of connections that I do have.
Some people think that this amount of connections is really hard to keep up with, but I really do not think so. I have all my connections gather articles coming to my inbox and as long as it is not a game and has a good catchy title, your article will get ready by me sooner or later. I do cherish my connections and enjoy reading more than I actually compose as some of you have very interesting things that you write about. My favorites are about ghost stories and personal life experiences back in the days before my time.
To get all the connections that I do have, I spent alot of time each day around Christmas time inviting people to connect with me. There are many connections that may not be active in writing, but like to read what I have to write about. Each day, I would search for about 10 different people to connect with. I would search people by town or state. I also would check to see who the people were that were most active here on gather and would ask them to be connected with me also.
Do I think I have enough connections? There are many many many people here writing and commenting on Gather. I am not even connected to half the amount of people that are registered here on gather, so the amount of people I am connected to is not alot if you look at things in that perspective. Yes, the more people you have, the more difficult it becomes to keep up with others, but I like a challenge and I love to read what people have written about or even think about current events even if I do not agree with them or their lifestyle, I still like to hear their point of view.
So, there is how I got the connections that I have.

Unfortunately, earlier there were people who stopped reading my stuff because of who I was connected with. A bit immature in my opinion.
Seems you've found what works well for you.
