Amtrak Auto train...here I come!

I have finally done it, for over 15 years I have planned to take the AutoTrain down to Florida. Yesterday I booked it.

I upgraded a tad,to a Roomette! I am getting older now and even though I love to travel it is getting difficult. The total bill came to 499.00 for me and my daughter. She is going for free with a promotion code. What messed me up...my minivan is 67 inches high...I had to pay 150 extra because of two inches. I joked with the lady on the phone that I was going to let the air out of my tires!

I am so excited, this year I am going to do things I only thought about. Life is too short not to. I am going down on Amtrak, then I am staying at the Walt Disney World's Pop Century Resort. For once I am doing it with semi conveinence.

I didn't even know there was such a thing. We are trying to figure out the best way to get my daughter's car down there when she moves to Orlando. Neither one of us want to drive down, and we talked about having my husband drive it down and fly back, then we would all go down in our SUV. We have about opted to rent a trailer ($250) and take it down behind us. Can you send a car on the auto train if you don't ride the train?

Sue-No,I believe you must be there with it. I know if you dont have vechicle you cant go on

ps I hit the movie review1 by accident!,,,but I guess eventually they can a movie about Amtrak Autotrain!

We just booked a trip from CT to Florida for July on Amtrak. We made the trip from NY to FL when I was a kid and I remember it being a blast. This time it is my husband, 3 kids and mother in law and I and we are paying $1200 for all 6 for round trip (reserved coach). I thought that was a decent deal. We aren't taking a car though. We are going on a cruise a couple days after we get down there. Very excited!

Donna! My daughter is at that resort with 10 of her classmates and their sponsor's on their senior trip this week.
She said it is awesome! They have condo's and are having a blast.

My girlfriend's parents did that with her car when we moved to Florida. They said it was a great trip.

Yeah, with the gas prices rising- it pretty much shouldn't be that much more than driving.

lol....I think in this room we only have enough space for a tote bag!...we can stick you in the back of the van!
Have fun! When you come look for my husband he is a monorail driver.
PS we used to live in Westbury before moving to Florida. We also took the roomett, it is small but there is a small toilet in there.

we were going to take 2 days to go down and 2 days to come back to Ohio. With the cost of gas and a car rental, plus hotel prices on the way down, this may be the way to go. Will have to check out the cost.
