Well, I just did a little research. It was just released to the US in February, and I did not find it on www.blockbuster.com so I guess I will have to go to the theater.

I saw the author on BookTV this past weekend and he sounded very passionate about William Wilberforce's mission to end slavery across the pond. He said the movie did a good job of portraying the story (but, of course, that the book was better).

As Americans with a horrendous past regarding slavery, we forget that other countries were equally as culpable in this barbaric practice. I recently saw a play called "The Coast of Utopia" which took place during the time that Russian serfs were emancipated (in the 1700's). Russia was actually ahead of us in executing this particular freedom.

Eric Metaxas (who wrote the book, Amazing Grace) was so excited about this story that it made me want to see the movie.

My mother wanted to go see it, but couldn't find the person to drive us to the movie theater. (She's almost 81 and won't take public transit.)

I haen't seen it yet either, but I want to. Several kids from my mid-high Sunday School class saw it a few months ago and really enjoyed it.

I just added Amazing Grace to my Netflix queue. It hasn't been released to DVD yet and the release date is unknown. I'm sure it will be out within a few months though.

I feel like part of the incrowd today because I haven't seen it either , but Tony and I do plan on seeing it this weekend so I will let you know how it goes.

Have not seen it yet. But will check it out as soon as it come's out on DVD. I don't do movie theater's very much. Too crowded.

I haven't seen it either, but have no fear, I will see it. I don't generally go to the movies. We do netflix or our local video store. I do want to see this one.

I saw it on opening night and I loved it. No, it wasn't a gripping, action, fast-paced thriller. But it was powerful and hopeful and showed flawed human beings striving for something greater and not giving up--even though it took Wilberforce and his group 18 years to have the slave trade abolished. The acting was tremendous--not only Ioan Gruffudd, but Albert Finney and Michael Gambon gave stellar performances. It is a political story--and I suppose not one someone who only watches films for entertainment value alone might choose, but I think Hollywood underestimates the public and the public will want to watch this movie because it will make them think. I not only think this movie is one of the most important films I've seen, but I think it should be required viewing for every student. After watching the movie, I went on and researched Wilberforce and the abolition movement in the UK more. I found out that once the trade was made illegal, the British Navy took it upon themselves to capture slave ships and release the slaves in any waters where the British Navy sailed. (Meaning all but the home ports of a few countries.) Great Britain then pressured other countries into joining them in banishing the slave trade. Wilberforce, however, didn't stop there--he fought almost to his dying breath to make slavery illegal in all of British Empire. The bill passed within days of his demise. I will buy this movie as soon as it comes out. Kelley P.

I can't go to the theater to see it because the sound is too loud. Since I had a brain tumor removed last summer loud sound triggers migraines. I have seen a lot about this movie and I do want to see it so I'm waiting till it comes to On Demand on Comcast and we will pay to see it at home. I feel it is a definite must see from all I have heard about it.

Kelley P. Thanks for the review. I have heard much acclaim about the story, but not much about the actual performances. I am glad to hear that the actors were able to capture the passion of Wilberforce and his compatriots. I haven't been out to see many movies lately, but this is one that I will be buying on it's DVDuesday.

I have not seen it - don't get out to the theater much with twin toddlers :) but hearing that it is based on a book - does make me want to check out the book first....

It looks very promising. My mom has always loved the "Amazing Grace" song (I remember Judy Collins singing it on 'Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman'). As a matter of fact, just today I got a Native American music catalog / CD sampler which includes that title! It will be interesting to hear their interpretation. This one looks like a must-see -- that film company is coming out with a lot of winners, and was featured a while back in the 'Imprimis' (Hillsdale College) newsletter. Will have to check it out. This is the first time that I have ever heard of the both the book & the movie. Where have I been? I thought that ya'll were talking about the song, lol!! I must live in my own little world just a tad too much. I will be checking into this movie here around Lubbock, and I will let ya'll know what I find!!

Haven't seen it but I have heard it is supposed to be good. The churches are incouraging Christians to see it.

This is on our list of films for homeschooling, but haven't seen it yet.

Along with most others here, I have yet to see it. This is a film that many animal rights groups are encouraging people to see also. Aside from his fight to abolish slavery, Wilbeforce was among the first to fight for animals. I really do want to see this one, but I'm not sure if it's still showing anywhere around here.

My boyfriend and I attempted to see it at our closest theatre, but were informed it was a limited release only, and wasn't being shown by it, so I'm stuck waiting for the DVD too...

I haven't seen it, but have been eagerly waiting to see what Ioan Gruffudd would be making next. Since seeing him in King Arthur I have been interested to see what else he could do. The Fantastic Four is not a good show of his talents I believe - but he has a couple of other movies coming out in the next year that might be better.

Never heard of it, but I'm making a list of things to see. I think I'll put that on there.
