Sunrise Earth and Missy

I know they make short videos for cats and I always wondered who would buy them.  The premise is to put the video on to keep you cat company if you work during the day.  Before you think this is silly, let me tell you, they may have something here.

Last night my husband was watching TV while I was gathering.  I could here birds chirping and water flowing, and Spring type sounds.  I was curious to see what he was watching.  It wasn't prime time yet for watching TV so he flips the channels and sometimes falls asleep with something really stupid, IMHO on.  I look at the screen and there is this nice scene with nice nature sounds on but I really couldn't tell what it was.  I look over to my side of the couch and there is Missy, our kitty, staring intently with the ears going forward and backward and sideways the way they use them to listen to sounds they like.  I asked my husband what in the world he was watching and did he notice the cat was really into it.  He told me it was Sunrise Earth, one of the features on our cable company selections.  This is the same channel that has the fireplace video during the winter holidays.  He said she always jumps up on the couch to watch and listen when he puts this on.

Who would have thought it?

Oh yes, my animals love to get excited when they hear dogs barking on TV so naturally cats will enjoy hearing birds and try to figure out where they are! Good idea - neat article. SAlud.

That is so interesting. I wonder if this works for dogs, too? My husband puts music on for our dog when we are going to be out of the house for more than an hour. He says it is good for her and keeps her company. I never really thought that the dog cared, but now...

How cute! That makes sense. I think cats would enjoy a video
made just for them in mind with things that catch their interest. ;)

Yes, the dogs get excited whenever another dog is barking on the TV and the cats love anything to do with birds and small animals moving about. Sometimes I think it is more fun to watch them than it is to watch the TV.

I have a bird video that I bought to help me learn various bird songs. My two cats love watching it with me!

Edward, you are funny. No, she just lays on the couch and watches. You can see her ears moving in all those different directions cats manage to be able to do. I haven't bought any videos, I just turn on the Sunrise Earth channel. It's really cool, it shows the sunrise of a different place in the world.

That channel sounds so awesome. I wonder if it shows the sunrise if it is actually happening or if it is prerecorded.

That makes sense! I just wish they made a show that had dog bones floating across the screen or barking dogs for my little pup!

I once worked on the packaging for a "made for dog video". I took it to my parents farm to try it out on their 2 dogs. They normally were not allowed into the living room to watch tv. They didn't respond to the city dog portion, but when the country dog part came on they were glued to the tv with ears twitching.

You are NOT going to believe this, Nana -- but, not my only my dog, my BIRDS (budgies -- little parakeets, no less) pay GREAT HEED to the tube! So, on Saturday and Sunday mornings, I put them on The Planet's Funniest Animals (Animal Planet), and they just plain LOVE it.

Also, if you have to be out of the house for any length of time, it helps to keep your television running with the animals put in front of it. They feel happier all the way around. It entertains them and keeps them company. I even had a little bird that had a favorite show (McGyver, no less!). It is just TOO FUNNY!

We once had a cat who loved Wheel of Fortune. Everytime Vanna would turn a letter he would jump and try to catch her hand! Watching Wheel of Fortune became a family event just to watch Bubba and Vanna!
