Oh now they are going to try to justify it all by saying the kids were racists. There's already at least one mag going at it about how they asked for a white stripper and used racial epithets. Even if they were racists, it doesn't justify having their lives ruined. But, some people will be willing to buy it and say that they deserved what they got. I am not one of those people.

I did watch and it was sad really. Especially, when I think it was Reed, said he'd be walking down the street and somebody would look at him edgewise as if they mighta kinda knew who he was and he'd get a little paranoid. Their 20 year old psyches are gonna be scarred for along time. There is something veeery wrong with our justice system these days. I think we might look to England for a little help there. They do not allow these sensationalistic portrayals of Court T.V. pendings about people who may or may not be guilty. They do not allow this courtfotainment to happen, we do. A prime reason for ambulance chasing lawyers to make a name for themselves on T.V.

I lived in NC, most of my life. My oldest daughter attended Duke, and is now an ADA for the State of NC. She is\was embarrassed both for Duke and and the NC Justice system. As she put it, Duke had no real alternative but to act as they did. What would any other college or university have done in the same situation.

As for the justice system, which, she obviously supports, she was disappointed in the manner in which Nifong handled case. As a member of the bar, and a member of the prosecutorial system, she was able to give me some 'off-the-cuff' information, including information about the ethics charges being bought up on Nilong. I may have misunderstood her, but my understanding is that if Nifong is disbarred, the Duke students can then sue Niling in a civil suit. Frankly this would please not only her, myself, and many citizens in of the State of NC also feel railroaded, and ashamed of the publicity this has bought to this wonderful state.

Lastly, I find myself wondering, if perhaps, instead of full tuition to NC Central College, , Jessie Jackson should have paid for her to be institutionalized in a reputable mental health facility.

I had also heard that they could sue NiFong in a civil suit and I think they should. They may be exhonerated but the stigma will follow them. This was just all wrong.

Harsh words, Napoleon. A year of their lives is gone. They were guilty until proven innocent. Every move the boy from Long Island made was recorded in Newsday so everybody knew his business. Are they spoiled frat boys? I don't know for sure, but maybe that is assumed because they all seemed to have money. I too saw many jackasses in college who were reality-impaired, racist, and spoiled, but it doesn't make them guilty of rape.

As one young man said, when he dies, no matter what he accomplishes in life, he will be known as the man who was accused of rape.
There should be stronger laws against false accusations.

To some extent I agree with Napoleon, however, the things that makes me the sickest is that it is already nearly impossible to get young women to come forward when they are sexually assulted in similar situations, now they will never be willing to come forward. It is people like this woman (I use the term loosely) that really damage all the work being done to help rape victims.
