I went a little bit Green today!

 I subscribe to an email newsletter that is called the “Ideal Bite “

It is from a website that is dedicated to going Green. It gives tips on ecology and gives you all sorts of environmental tips .Using organic materials, recycling, saving energy, the whole ball of wax.   http://www.idealbite.com/

 More than a few on Gather have mentioned going Green as well.

Well, today I did my bit for the Green movement. I bought some shopping bags that are supposedly environmentally friendly. Actually a few years ago in Montreal one store was selling muslin grocery sacks and we bought a couple but it didn’t seem to go over that well.

    We already recycle our pop cans. And plastic bottles .I think that those are the only two things recycled on the island.

I keep wanting to buy the reusable bags at the grocery store, but I keep forgetting each time I go. They have them displayed on the way out of the store instead of on the way in so by the time I see them and remember, I'm already loaded up in plastic or paper bags. I'm bad at remembering things.

I have gotten really good at recycling bottles, cans, glass, papers, magazines, cardboard, etc.

Vicky, in our store they are the first thing you see once you get in the store. but people just walk right past.

I beleve in going green and since we moved here they don't pick up our recycling. We have to drive several miles and carry our paper, plastic, tin, alum. and plastic store bags. YES FOR GREEN. Thanks for the good information.

I bought 6 reusable bags in 1994, and take them with me to the grocery store all the time. I get such weird looks from the baggers at the different stores, when they ask if I want paper or plastic, and I say neither, and hand them my bags, they look at me like I am from Mars. I use those bags for everything!

I know here in NY they are trying to get grocery stores to stop using plastic bags!!!

Dear Wendy. Do you realize that just now you had a few people sign up to receive
notification on tips to help the environment. (I just did.) That is a great deed you did for today. Thank you. I made myself bags years ago. I am not in the habit of using them at the grocery store. I do use them, however at all herbal and organic farm stands that I frequent as soon as the season opens.

This is wonderful. It amazes me how much waste there is out there. Many small towns do not recycle. I can't believe all the aluminum and glass that goes into the trash. Anytime anyone does things to take the burden off the Earth is most appreciated. I am saving the plastic bags that go around newspaper to make a hammock out of - nothing should be thrown away. Cool. I've thought about it because I hate those stupid plastic bags, but I just never want to spend the extra $$ on grocery bags. GOOD FOR YOU.

Good for you Wendy. I have not bought bags for this purpose but I do recycle those plastic bags. Sometimes I bring them back to reuse or just drop them in the recycle bin at the store but usually they get used as my miniature trash can bags. I even reuse Zip Lock bags. My mother-in-law thinks I'm nuts with how many disposable items I manage to reuse.
