Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think all CHRISTIAN DENOMINATIONS NOT ONLY DO NOT ACTIVELY EMBRACE EVOLUTION BUT THEY ACTUALLY DISDAIN IT, as evidenced in their total unwillingness to confront their ancient habits of belief and behavior with the sobering insights of evolution. This intolerable truth is damaging not only to “religious” credibility but also to public decency because it enables inclinations of public disrespect and daringly mean behavior for reasons of sexual, racial and personal differences.
Why does it matter? It matters because the equality of person, indiscriminate of sex, race and persuasion, matters. Because of institutional disrespect and discrimination, people are personally set up to be easy targets of public trashing by shock-jocks and other media-sleaze “artists”. The serious exploration of insights of evolution and the social application of these might enable religions and cultures to debunk old discriminatory attitudes and nasty habits which give bases to arrogant attitudes and noxious behavior.
If Don Imus and his ilk (and churches) are really serious in witnessing professional standards of decency and professed Christian belief in the equality of persons, they would seriously consider lessons of evolution and they would engage themselves and the media with these insights so as to clean up gratuitous media and environmental trash.
Decency matters. Respect and integrity matter. Trash is what trash does. Persistent insult has psychological and physiological consequence. Social, religious, ecological, and environmental injustices in America and in the world prove the point. Intentional trash is unsustainable, unacceptable. There is nothing aesthetic, artistic or redemptive about it.
