When John Edwards launched his Presidential campaign he asserted that we could not wait until 2008 for change, and that his campaign would not just be about changing presidents but would take real action to change America starting now. "Tomorrow Begins Today" he said. In the most effective combination of issues and inspiration in a long time, he has proved he knows how to walk the walk. A new effort launched today to combat climate change shows that unique ability.
Edwards has just launched a new site in which the campaign gives concrete suggestions for every American to reduce their carbon footprint and thus reduce their contribution to global warming. The dynamic site gives specific actions every individual can take to fight climate change, starting at home by changing your light bulbs, weatherizing your home, lowering your thermostat, and on the road by reducing your driving, keeping your tired inflated, and cleaning your air filter. It tells you just how much you will reduce your impact in real time and shows how easy it is to make a difference.
This is just the latest in a serious of actions, including his active OneCorps chapters which engage in community AND political service not just to help the campaign but to change America in the process. He is the first major candidate to make his own campaign carbon neutral, taking action to reduce the impact of their emissions at their campaign HQ and purchasing carbon offsets.
What is really interesting about the approach of this campaign is that they are aggressively tackling ISSUES in a way that is exciting, dynamic, and most importantly makes the connection between community service and political involvement- the best way to activate the next generation to get involved in the political process. He has laid out the most comprehensive, detailed plans on every major issue. Edwards is running the most progressive campaign of the major candidates and more importantly, combining an issues-based campaign with the inspirational rhetoric that motivates Americans to action.
I have been on board with none of the campaigns so far, but Edwards gets more impressive every day. Check out the new Reduce Your Carbon site and then his campaign.

During the past couple of election cycles, we have been treated to dirty tricks, swift-boating, mile-wide-and-inch-deep PR campaigns, and lightweight media coverage. This is going to be a terribly lengthy campaign. We need to insist on more in-depth coverage and responses from the candidates, and less acceptance of cheap shots.
I wish Gather could be a nexus of more intelligent discussions, but so far it doesn't look like it will be.
Another controversal GW that they are confronting for the election: the rising concerns of a Global War. Many talking points to hammer over this.
And, of course, there's that other GW.
Kudos to Edwards for DOING SOMETHING.
There are so many things wrong with your post, I hardly know where to begin. People with medical degrees often will not say another doctor has made mistakes, even if he has, and the AMA was the biggest offender in turning a blind eye to incompetent doctors for years and years, including the time frame we are talking about. They do a bit better now. A lay jury is more than competant to judge these types of cases, if the lawyers involved do their job, and make sure they are exposed to the medical facts. Apparently the problem is the attorneys for the defense didn't do that? Juries do it every day in our country, and do it well, despite the few ridiculous cases that are often the only ones we hear about. If these insurance companies thought they could do better they would have appealed, as well. You also give todays knowledge to support why a past award was wrong, and that is patently unfair. Given the knowledge at the time, there was nothing frivolous about these lawsuits, and, in fact, Edwards did his job, and represented his clients to the best of his abilities. Your reference to him hearing the voice from the grave was part of doing the best for his client that he could. When you go to court next, you hire one that will decide how far he should go to represent you, I'll take one like John, that gives it every thing he has. I'll also take him as my president, something I have never considered Bush to be.
Now there's a plug for The Great American Way.
I assume, Doug, that you would never want a jury of your peers to decide your fate. I suppose you think it always best to lay your life, well being and hopes for Justice in the hands of one person (a judge) who may have some very personal political agendas to sway their decision making, instead of with twelve people who might have more of a clue as to what it's like living in the trenches and on the factory floors of life.
I've favored Edwards since the 2004 election and right now it doesn't look all that promising for him I'd still like to see him in there. The shoddy attacts on Edwards are rather pitiful and slightly amusing at this point!
