When I was three years old, I found out that I was great in an emergency. It seemed I automaticly knew exactly what to do when my friend Sherry almost cut her finger off. Immediately I knew to put pressure on her finger to stop the bleeding. Then I called for help. I held her finger all the way to the hospital. The Doctor was very impressed and he told me I would be an excellent nurse. I knew then that that's what I wanted to do with my life. I wanted to help as many people as I could.
Throughout my life I often would find myself in life and death situations. No matter where I went, an emergency of some kind would arise.
One time I went to the grocery store with my Mom. I finished shopping before her and decided to wait in the car. As I looked out of the window, I noticed one of my patients from the nursing home had escaped. She was crossing the six lane highway, Luckily there wasn't much traffic at the time. She got halfway across, then fell down in the middle of the highway. As my Mom came out of the store, she saw me carrying my patient back to the nursing home.
Every time after that day, whenever my Mom took me anywhere, something would happen that would need my immediate attention. A few months later, I asked her to take me to Mini-Max so I could cash my check. She said she would if I went in and cashed it and hurried up. She waited in the car while I went in the store.
In front of me at the counter were two Hell's Angels biker dudes. One of them had just cashed his check and was waving his money above his head. He started singing, "Money, money, money money!" As he sang he was doing the Money Dance. It was hilarious! He was doing little leaps and hops in the air. He and his friend were laughing wildly.
The guy with the money then fell down and cracked his head open on the counter. He then started having a Grand Mal Seizure. I went instantly to my knees and cradled his head which was bleeding profusely. The cashier called 911 while I put a roll of paper towels under his head. I held a towel on his head to stop the bleeding, while his friend tried to hold him still.
The ambulance arrived five minutes later and took him to the hospital. By the time I cashed my check and got back to the car I had been gone about twenty minutes. When I got in the car I saw that my Mom was furious. She said, "Every time I take you anywhere theres some damn emergency!" "Don't ask me to take you anywhere else!"
Now that I have moved to Mississippi, it doesn't happen very often, but last week my friend fell down and hurt himself. Thank God he wasn't hurt to badly. He was amazed how fast I got to him. In an emergency I can run like the wind. I guess it was funny to see such a big girl running so fast.
I have always been thankful for my abilities, and over the years I have helped many people. Sometimes I regret not finishing Nursing School, but I felt that I could help more people as a Nursing Asistant. The money is not very good, but I believe I will receive my rewards when I get to heaven.
