I had an experience that goes to show you just how important it is to be kind for no reason at all. I volunteered to come to work early for the remainder of the year and do bus duty for someone that has responsibilities at home in the morning. I didn't tell her I was doing it and I asked to remain anonymous. Well, of course, word got out and she was super appreciative. It made her week to not have to worry about it.
It seems that started a cycle of events. Someone else in the building heard I had done it and wanted me to know that they think I am doing a fabulous job as a teacher and as a colleague. This is someone that has NEVER said anything like that to anyone. I mentioned it to an administrator who then went to the guy and told him how supportive it was and gave him a period off of his duties. I find this all very heartwarming especially at a time of year when tempers are short and emotions are high in preparing for testing, keeping the kids under control as the weather improves, and just overall being exhausted...do you have any similar stories? Let's share...

The other day at the grocery store, (I was there mid-day when all the old people show up) I was trying to figure my way around the newly remodeled aisles. That's when I saw a HILARIOUS site: A little old woman was holding onto a cart and a store employee, who was shorter than the little old woman (we're talking about under 5 ft for both women), was trying to help her get an item. I observed for a minute and then realized that the employee would NEVER be able to reach the item on the top shelf - even with using the hair brush to knock it off, which she had resorted to. So, I walked over, stood there for a second and then asked if I could help. They both looked up at me (UP AT ME) and said, "Oh... well, do you think you can reach that?!?!" I put my arm up and pulled the hair net off the hook. I handed it to the woman and the two started debating if that was the one she really wanted. At that point, I just walked away. But, I did my good deed.
