Ok things around this place have been crazy and that's an understatement. Our son, Jordan, the one with the compromised immune system got off of the bus Thursday burning with fever of almost 104. All he kept saying was that his throat hurt him, but he didn't hurt enough to go to the ER (all the dr office's were closed because of Good Friday being the following day). Jordan was severely congested, with a terrible croupy cough.
Finally late Friday night he decided to go to the ER. We were there all of 45 minutes, that was record timing, I was so impressed. We seen a doctor at the ER new to the area and she asked Jordan to open his mouth and stick out his tongue. He could barely open his mouth. So she took a quick peep and said that it was fine. Then she checked his ears and the left ear has a bad infection, yet he didn't feel it. So she said we would get a Z-Pak. Nothing for the throat, cough or congestion, no blood work, no strep test. So I was kind of ticked off, but I gave her the benefit of the doubt that this was all from the ears, even though it was against my better judgement.
So time went on and Jordan kept burning with the fever, all day Saturday and into the night. Nothing was improving, seemed to be getting worse, even though his does of the Z-Pak for Friday night was a double dose. All he wanted to do was sleep, like for 18 hours a day, not eating or drinking much. Same thing on sunday, so I called his infusion nurse and she wanted me to take him back to the ER and request a different doctor. So figuring that it was Easter Sunday, this was going to be a fast visit as well. NOT!! We waited five hours, only to be able to find out that the second doctor didn't know what was wrong with him either. My main concern was the fever and that something had been missed, with his condition, a little something missed can be a terrible mistake.
So bright and early yesterday morning I called for his dr at Children's Hospital and they were on this like white on rice (I had called on Friday and Saturday but it was a new doctor that I was unfamiliar with so I figured I would take my chances with the local dr, bad mistake on my part). The dr at Children's Hospital immediately called in a totally different antibiotic and guess who is about 150% better today than just 24 hours ago. We shall never know exactly what that was, let's just hope and pray that it never comes back.
I might also mention that our oldest daughter started with fever and body aches late Saturday night, but she has the flu. Needless to say, my children only got to die the Easter eggs today, but with everyone sick, and me dancing around here with a can of Lysol like a Crazed Fairy, we were doing good. On a positive note, the Easter Bunny did pass on Saturday night as scheduled. Although he did forget/not find a pertinent thing. My youngest daughter doesn't care for chocolate, so instead of giving her a chocolate Easter rabbit, my dh was going to get her a real rabbit, since she has shown alot of responsibility caring for the one she has. Well much to our dismay, there's not a darn baby rabbit, one that will stay little, within a hundred miles of this stick town. We will get her the rabbit as soon as we can find one.
Thanks for letting me rant and complain,
The Crazied Lysol Fairy!!
