Hello to all,
I frequently do wine tastings for a small winery in Missouri and this question plagues me - What do you expect next?
You're at the winery standing in front of the tasting bar/table/barrel and behind it is a person (some like me, some not) holding a bottle of _______ (your favorite wine here). They begin:
"Welcome to _________."
What do you expect next? Entertaining banter with some facts thrown in. Serious discussion about the merits of soil acidity, sunlight, harvest methods and French vs. domestic grapes. Foodparings - salmon vs. pizza.
This is not a Gather.com contest or game. Your input will help me, and I hope, entertain me.
Drink what you like, eat what you like, enjoy life.
Namaste, Wayne

For me, it would have to be a beginner's class for those just starting to enjoy the taste of wine - a tad of history - What tastes well with what -
As far as "advanced" - can't give you any ideas, lol.
Will enjoy seeing the posts following.
But that would be tacky.
It is partly about the grape. And partly about what you like. I am a Zinfandel Hound because I like the bold flavor notes. Some people adore California Chardonnay which sometimes for me is too astringent and lacking in balance. For me, wine is a blessing. In talking about it, I would not seek to be snooty, as in "this is good, and this is crap". There is a value to fostering understanding of the complex characteristics of wine, but with no wrong answers.
Well, other than the merlot thing.
Just Kidding!
That being said, the information would have to be fairly basic to meet my needs. Once I discovered a particular wine or two that I adored I would want more in depth information about weather, soil, harvest and handling. Initially, I would just like to be reminded of the best way to taste a wine..how it's flavor can open up on the palate.. I would love to be able to attend tastings often enough to actually learn which wines I love and retain the information!
Enjoyed the article and pic.
