One has to wonder, though, whether this is how other countries feel about the United States having nuclear weapons, too, considering our behavior... ::wry grin::
The Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty is the leading agreement between states on the profileration of nuclear weapons. Iran signed it, Iraq signed it. North Korea originally said yes, but then publicly withdrew their support before actually signing it. Therefore, by UN agreements, they weren't obligated under the treaty. Still shady but what can you do?
In 2000 the US Government put forth the Iran Nonprofileration Act, publicly decrying the Iranian desires to expand their nuclear weapons program.
Right now, I hope the US continues to do exactly what it's doing, sit back on our heels and make the UN make a move. We can no longer fund a war and take blame for what is or isn't done on the world's stage. It shouldn't be our responsibility any longer.
