Life
has set the dinner table
a banquet
of varied array;
appetizers
of light-heartedness,
times
of sweet revels,
salads
of lazy grazing,
moments
of my choosing,
hard main courses,
servings carved
and given,
to be slowly
chewed,
and swallowed,
with accompanying
drink,
of bitter tears.
Dessert
brings rejoicing,
and the meal,
too soon
finished.
Laying my napkin,
upon
my emptied plate,
I kiss
my hostess,
upon her hand,
and make
my exit.
Life,
replete,
awaits another,
while I return,
from whence I came.
(I hope I was
a gracious
dinner guest.)
