Several of you have asked me to keep you updated from the road, so here's my first attempt at this blog thing. I'm in the middle of a 24-city promotional tour for my new record "Something In Your Eyes" which I'm excited to say is now available everywhere. I've been traveling with my keyboard player Kevin Hastings and radio promoter Jerry Lembo. Kevin is an amazing player who you may have seen on one of those MTV reality shows with artist Cheyenne or on tour with Liz Phair. Jerry is a legend in radio promotion and has worked the singles of everyone from the Rolling Stones and Billy Joel to Nora Jones and Maroon 5.
Most of my days look like this:
Wake up at dark for a Fox or NBC Morning show, hit the local radio stations and finish the day with a show in the city. Then get a few hours of sleep and fly to the next city in the morning. Although I'm severely sleep depraved, I'm having a blast.
Here are a few highlights so far…
- SNOW, and lots of it.
- AN ATTIC in ATLANTA. I played a club in Atlanta called Eddie's Attic, which I later found out is one of the places where John Mayer got his start. It was a great night.
- FIRE IN OHIO. We hit three cities in Ohio, which were all freezing cold but one of our stops heated things up a bit…we stopped by a radio station in Cincinnati where we visited a DJ named Grover…a few minutes after I placed my Single "Something in Your Eyes" on his desk, the studio started to smoke and everything shut down….as we headed out we passed fire trucks on their way to the studio. Jerry said as we were leaving, "Now there's a sign of a hot single!"
- CHEZ NORA. This is a club in Ohio where the people were amazing and the owner made me sing an encore for my supper.
- IT ALL STARTS IN PHILLY. We were in Philadelphia on the day that my record released. I sang on the morning show at NBC 10 , (Joey Macintyre from the New Kids on the Block was interviewed on the show that morning as well…great guy), but my highlight of Philly was running up the same stairs that Rocky did when he was getting ready to kick off his career. Only fitting I got to do it on the day my first major record releases. It was freaking freezing but worth the memory.
- BOSTON. After I sang on the Morning show on Fox 2 in Boston (you can check out a link to the show at http://www.myfoxboston.com/myfox/pages/Entertainment/Detail?contentId=2365295&version=2&locale=EN-US&layoutCode=TSTY&pageId=7.3.1), the general manager of the station brought me to his office where he said, "David, you have an amazing voice and a fresh sound. I'd really like to do some things here at the station to help the nation hear your music." That was killer. Meeting radio personality Candy O'Terry in Boston was amazing, she is a legend in radio and seemed like a sister I'd never met. She invited me to sing at an annual event the station puts on for remarkable women. Last year, Lionel Richie performed at the event. Also, listen for "Something In Your Eyes" to start spinning on Magic 106.7 soon (if you live in the Boston area, feel free to call or e-mail the station and request "Something in Your Eyes" (617-822-9600 coterry@magic1067.com).
- NEW FRIENDS IN NEW YORK. I played at a legendary venue called "The Living Room", a place where some amazing artists got their start and still stop by to play, including Nora Jones. Much of my team at the record company is officed in New York (some of whom I hadn't even met yet). They all came to the show to give their support, including my good friend and legendary publicist, Susan Blonde.
- VALENTINE'S DAY IN THE WINDY CITY. Although I was away from home on Valentine's Day, at least I got to spend it with family. One of my brothers lives in the Windy City and I was surprised by my other brother and his wife who drove six and a half hours just to see me play in Chicago. I hope you had an unforgettable V-day but if it was one you can't wait to forget, don't worry about it…today's a new day!
If you haven't had a chance to pick up my record, it is now available on iTunes, Amazon.com and at your local music stores. Thanks for all your support so far on this tour.
Live in Love,
DM

Sounds like you're having a blast...good luck with the rest of the tour!
Keep it up, good luck, and stay in touch!
It's been many years since I lived the life of the road; I was an audio engineer way back when. It's nice to hear that the road is still the road and not any different than it was in my day.
It's fun reading your take on what the majority of time on the road is : hard work surrounded by strange things.
I was in Germany once with the J.Geils Band in 1979, and we were loading out after a tv show. It was raining and our English road crew kept arguing with a certain German policeman. I finally asked the Englishman what the problem was. He told me that the German policeman wanted him to move our truck because the cab of it was across the railroad tracks and a train was coming.
The Englishman told the German policeman to "bug off " and refused to move the truck until it was loaded. The train had to grind to a stop while the English crew finished loading the truck.
Passengers from the train poured out onto the street and yelled at all of us until the truck finally loaded and moved. Then they all got back on the train and everybody went their separate ways. Rock and Roll !
PS: sorry I missed your appearance on the radio here in Cincinnati.
I was lucky enough to talk to David Martin in a podcast/interview. I will post the text on gather.com --which he never mentioned being a part of.. nor did I..
but I will give you the link to the podcast.
a more generous spirit I have yet to meet. We did a lot of talking on the podcast and we did a lot "off air" and he's incredible.. both as a person, as a musician and a very generous soul.
David.. hope you got the message from me. I ordered sheet music, set up piano lessons and it's not nearly as hard as I thought. I remember more than I thought.. Now I just wish YOUR sheet music was available for purchase
Stevie
Thanks for the blog.
