The hurricane forecast is out. This is suppose to be a more active season than others before as the weather cycles. We should have 17 named storms, 5 of those major hurricanes, and a 17% chance a major hurricane will hit the Gulf Coast.
Hurricane season starts at the end of May, so like it or not, the season is fast approaching. We as a family keep emergency items packed for the whole 6 months of hurricane season, then at the end of the 6 months, we unpack and either eat the rations or feed them to the dogs, one can only eat so many vienna sausages...LOL
My prayers are with everyone that was affected by Katrina and Rita,
Stephanie

I too hope all those usually affected by these seasonal monstrosities are safe and out of harms way this year.
Thanks Nana for stopping by.
Seriously though, these predictions are always rough, as last year we were to have had more, but they never happened, and thank goodness, what we had was bad enough. Hopefully the State Government of La will have learned to use the federal aid to Properly fix those walls! Damn that could have been a lot less damage if they had.
Hopefully all coastal states will learn to do their jobs right on these walls, so we do not have another situation like Katrina!
You are welcome. I don't usually watch the news as I am not home, but I saw this report and thought it was worthy of a gather post.
The mess from the two hurricanes over 18 months ago will be around for years to come, in one form or another. I can't say that I blame you for wanting to pack the kids up in the car and heading out, but I must ask where to? I mean the mid west fights the tornadoes which can form at a moment's notice. The east coast is just as dangerous as the gulf coast, California has had to deal with earthquakes in the past, and the very north deals with many feet of snow all at once in the winter.
I wish you luck and I know you will keep us informed.
New Orleans won't ever be the same, but it can be great again, I wish everyone in hurricane areas the best.
Your neck of the woods is hit hard as well. I hope this season has nothing to worry about.
we haul tail when weather is coming. I have a husband who is disabled as well as a son who depends on infusions every 7 days. I have to have electricity for thier meds to stay cold. Besides with my husband being disabled, it would be rather hard for me to keep myself, my husband and three children safe in case of a direct hit.
Thanks for stopping by.
all we can do is to pray for a forecast that is off of the mark.
William,
Thanks for stopping by.
good article. I don't mind the drama - and I only live there part time because I want to - I told the hub to be prepared to fly down with all his tools and help rebuild. Ok more later. Salud.
I would offer up our house to you and yours, but you might be jumping out of the pot and into the fire. We live in a neighborhood and we are blessed to be on the high end of the street, so while the back of the neighborhood is flooding, we are high and dry.
I am sorry that your family is so difficult to deal with, especially where mom was involved. I know how those family matters can get messy and down right nasty. La Citizens is the only insurance company that we have had on our house for the last 14 years. We have never made a claim, so I can't speak one way or the other in that area, but I do know our rates are going up about a hundred dollars per year and that's with no extra coverage added on.
We hope to make improvements to the house real soon, then state farm has said that they will cover us, for a lot less money. We shall see!
Thanks for stopping by.
Thanks for stopping by. We already have the bottled water stacked up in the closet. We are buying something with every paycheck.....
I hope we are all save this hurricane season.
you are so welcome Mr. Larry. Thanks for stopping by.
Eileen, thanks for stopping by and reading my articles.
If you loved this city, come and visit. Help those who are dependent on the tourism industry thrive and survive. There is much beauty to see, and its worth a look at the damaged areas to keep us in the hearts and minds of others so that perhaps legislation in the future will make a difference.
We need a calm season here, so many are just finally starting to get the mess sorted out and are finally able to make strides forward. Lets all hope that the storms spare us and not forget those who are still struggling.
is that your real name? I ask because my oldest daugther's name really is Nola, named after her grandma, Enola.
I hope to get to the French Quarters sometime in the near future, I just have to find someone who would be interested in going with me. I drive through there quite often, but never stop, I know I should. I know what I see from the interstate is something for the better, but not sure if a hurricane heads this away what the area will do.
