Very Big Imortant Breaking News over on the other side of the Pond
(subtitle-who needs g-spot creepy photo contests?)
Hallo,
I just received this
and it's not from Gather. And it's not from their crappy contest. It's the REAL MCCOY
and not so easy to do
but I jus made it onto the enormous Kodak Billboard on Times Square
So everybody get prepared and point your browsers to NYC Kodak..com on
drum roll please
April 15th NYC time
(about 6hours after Prague time)
"Dear Mary,
I'm one of the editors for Kodak's Picture of the Day -- and I'm
writing to say Congratulations!
"Blossom Time" has been accepted for Picture of the Day and
will appear April 15, 2007 on the Home Page of kodak.com
http://www.kodak.com
and every few minutes on the Kodak Times Square Gallery in
New York City.
What says springtime better than the flowering Hawthorne. We
are still about a month away from seeing it here in Rochester.
I'm still looking at snow piled up in the parking lot!
We've enjoyed looking at your pictures. Thanks for sharing
them with us, and I hope to see many more!
Best regards,
Marianna O'Brien"
WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOPPPPPPPPSSSSSSS
and the Rangers won last night, too.
Many thanks to Jagr, Straka, Prucha and that guy called Avery who thinks he's an honorary Czech.
the only thing is, I haven't got the foggiest idea which picture it might be.
So we are all waiting in suspense.
but I think it must be this:

but it could be something else, too-- ;)
real photo contests have real editors, and scan the files for EXIF data and aren't open to drive-by one dissers. This is for real, kids. Moreover, plagiarism is a No-No and usually so is any kind of editing. They want the straight shot.
as in REAL BIG
on times square.
I got the real deal here and you can diss it all you want, but it will still be up on Times Square even without the syncophants of gather gathering to admire it--
it's just a pity that I won't be there.

and really I don't think I'd want it much differently...
so now I can just go onto the next round of submisisons and put this in a portfolio to prove that what I do has some value
and I think it rather proves what a lame site Gather can really be because there are so many good photographers and writers here, but few of them ever get any recognition because the site is designed for popularity contest and clique manipulation rather than any kind of quality content. what matters here is the amount of stuff you submit so Gather has more advertising space to rent and great advertising revenue...
and their photo contest had really nothing to do with qulity photography just like the First Chapters Contest is --- well you finish the sentence.
And whatever happened to the Amazon Shorts--or did Amazon just get fedd up? Becaue if the contest is any good at all, it not only brings out the best of the talent around, but rpeats itself-- and Gather Contests have a real ability to bring out the worst and the mediocre.
and never, not once have my images mde it in the top 50 and definitely never made it to frot page or selected by a "Gather Editor"
maybe I should be very thankful for that.
they are the abs best and you can't beat a jagr with over 600 goals and only three spots from the all time top and then there's straka and prucha who has the most goals ever scored as a rookie last year and rozival
how can I turn my back on the champeen first czech nhl team? you gotta be crazy besides that they just whupped the leafs of the tree.
no siree-- gotta go czech, even if avery got born on the wrong side of the pond, he's honorary czech as the 4th leading penalty minutes in the nhl.
those same czechs whupped the heck out of the american team at the world cup ihl last year--so don't go telling me that they can't play. gotta stick with the homegrown crowd. we can't help it if hasek went off and joined the wrong team or vokoun got mixed up with the wrong crowd and kaberle went of to join the leafs...
but that aside-- anybody know anybody in nyc to take a pic for me?
thank you renda, dawn and matthew
funny how there's so few folks here and they're the few folks with friendly faces in a big ungathering pond--
thank-you Lisa, I wish I knew someone who could take a picture for me of it...
say, i've HEARD of that place!
congratulations. ahhh, FAME. how cool is that?
Thanks oh Matthew, but Patrik Elias is one very good hockey player and does his job right-- which makes me laugh because I understand where you're coming from...
Thank-you Tonia who does such beautiful photography
And thanks to you magi who has fien me very much encouragemnt in the last two months when theings have been very bad and rough
and thanls t Faith whom I met very early in coming onto Gather
and Bart H-- you got the job of getting me the pictures on April 15th-- since you know the place and the time and seem to be the man on the spot
many-many thanks for showing up on this page.
I just came back from the Old town Square and my nose is running a marathon and I am chilled to the bones. I really wish to thank all of you because you came round and posted on my pictures regularly and kept me a bit sane when my life was utterly insane.
and now I must find a way to begin seriously to recover the terrible losses of the last six years, but the most important recovery was some kind of personal identification and profession.
we'll see. I've such a long way to go.
and thank-you Fiath--sorry haven't been about, but am just strugglig to survive from day to next an since the double-flagging, I'm not exactly keen on this site. I don't see how it is that some folks can pededdle just about anything and send about circulars requesting point donations and others get flagged just for linking to their own personal sites...
unbeleivable amount of abuse goes on here.
I missed it by a day, but I'm not in New York anyway, and I found it on the website by clicking "previous" on today's picture of the day.
This is really cool!
I wasnn't in New york, either. Missed the plane so I went off and watched the beautiful horses instead
and fell badly on Sunday-- because I am obviously very tired now-- smashed the saphenous vein--that biggie on the inside of your groin and my leg looks like it got caught in a thresher.
Linda, thanks for the nice box, but i could fill it with just about anything. Gather is very glitchy but usually for me the comments don't load and then I am having to do magic to get the comment boxes to load. amazing site for the imcompetent technology.
