I was annoyed yesterday to see the phrase "peak my interest" in the paper. Of course you, as a sophisticated Gather member, know that this should be "pique my interest."
It occurred to me to wonder, however, whether "peak" may have already slipped ahead of "pique" in common usage, in which case my own "pique" would be anachronistic.
I'm pleased to report, from a quick Google search, that "pique" still holds a commanding lead -- more than 2 to 1 -- even though my guess is that "peak" is gaining ground:
34,000 "peak my interest" vs. 75,600 "pique my interest"
52,100 "peak your interest" 123,000 "pique your interest"
Well, I hope that little digression piqued your own interest.
