Hello to all,
Silver Mines State Park is a couple of hours from St. Louis and our favorite place to car camp. We'd rather be backpacking but this is good, too. Every year we're there in the first two weeks of it opening. Get there after dark on Friday night, set up the tent, pop open a bottle of wine and enjoy the tranquility, blazing stars in the sky and the scent of nature. So very hard to beat!
Weatherman had said mid-fifties day and mid-thirties night. Perfect for late winter camping.
Saturday morning hazy sky, moisture heavy air, hot coffee and oatmeal. "This'll burn off by noon. Beautiful day for a hike to the mines." Mother Nature decided it would snow on us.
Check out the Kayakers on this trip.

Thanks Stephanie. I will do that.
Priscilla, for car camping it is always great. Swimming when the weather is warm, snuggling by a camp fire when it's cold and exploring the old silver mines area.

My sister and I camp every summer in the Adirondacks of N.Y.S. One spring we decided to camp opening day. In the middle of the night my sis shook my foot and said you better come out here and be sure to put on your shoes. It had snowed - our first (that we remember) in a tent. It was lovely in the moon light.
