I saw that number on my cell, and knew it was you - I'll try giving you a call back later!
Own it!
Shakin' my money maker all over the corporate world.
I bought a four pack of Boddingtons Pub Ale but it does not have a freshness date. No matter how hard I try, I cannot find a web site for Boddingtons in order to find out if the beer is fresh (the one that appears on the can doesn't work!). It has a code on the bottom which reads,
L5 340ML
23:28
Does anyone know what that means?
I am sure this is just a joke - that you actually think you have a problem - Boddingtons is an English Real Ale - it doesn't need a freshness date - that was just a marketing ploy made up by the the powers that be - that said - your beer comes from a batch that was canned(bottled) November 5, 2006 at 11:28 pm.
Hope that helps.
I tried one can and it wasn't swampy. In fact, it had a lot of fizz and that generally means it's got lots of pop to it.
Stout is my fave and I got a bottle of Samuel Smith's Nut Brown Ale which also doesn't have a freshness date. But I'm sure it'll be spendido as per usual.
But tell me something, is there any way to find out how to discern codes on beer so that we can tell whether or not they are swampy?
Thanx again.
Stout, porter, nut brown ale = ah, DELIGHTFUL!
But perhaps the unkind words are merited. Therefore, I shall make amends --- herewith I open up a can of Boddington's and pour the contents unto my Pilsner glass. Ah, see the creamy foam working its way upward --- hear the fizz, hear the clanking of the widget, and just imagine the tiny bubbles bursting to enrich the air with its agreeable scent. Now, I hereby pour the contents down into my insides and ... and ... and ...
Ah, exquisite! Delightful!
A toast --- a toast to Laurie! A toast to Will! A toast to Gather! And, most cheerfully, a toast to Brooklyn!!!
More good news = I got a reply from Smith Stout's importer and he gave me the bottling date for that stout. But he also said that the ale should have had a code on it which it did not. Still, it wasn't swampy so I can't complain too much.
Well, here's another toast to all at Gather.
Cheers ...
Next Gathering, of course - will be John, Ed, Ludi and I in Manhattan at the end of April - I am so excited I have goosebumps.
