I realise this is going to open a can of worms, but I need to rant about this once and for all.
For me this isn't an issue of administration or parties, (though there is a bit of overlap there) my issue is with the overwhelming power given to tinpot dictator bureaucrats who have sweeping authority to use their power to cause people trouble for no other reason than because they can. It's easier for them to boost their numbers and meet their "quotas" for how many "suspect terrorists" and "possible illegal aliens" they keep from entering our borders by actually refusing entrance to valid travellers. This includes harrassing and insulting travelers, subjecting them to strip searches, intimidating or threatening behavior, calling people liars and refusing to look at the travelers documentation, using the traveler's round-trip tickets to send them back to where they flew from without allowing them to call friends or family who may be waiting for them at their destination, or arrange for anyone to pick them up back at their point of origin.
We also have such a ridiculous issue of bureaucratic nonsense for people trying to follow the rules on legally entering this country either because they had the audacity to fall in love with someone from another country in the first place or they might wish to work here and someone may wish to hire them as say, an aeronautical engineer, high-school teacher or pediatrician. These are people with excellent credentials, no legal issues or problems and the financial wherewithal to provide for themselves and be a productive member of whatever community they choose to be part of. Then there are the people who merely wish to work in their country and come to this country regularly because they would like to enjoy our culture as artists or historians or whavtever they have a particular interest in.
These people are given hundreds of hoops to jump through, insulted, treated with suspicion, disrespect and insults (for wanting to come to our country, work here, pay taxes! What nerve!) and threatened with deportation and permanent separation from those they love if they even so much as "step out of line". Since "stepping out of line" could be construed as dealing with a cranky immigration official who hasn't had their daily cup of java yet, didn't "get some" from their spouse the night before, or is just plain po-ed that someone may be doing something that makes them happy and they are miserable f***s that want to spread a little unhappiness around, this makes things for anyone doing business with them really stressful and uncertain, to say the least!
NOW what really gets me frosty are all of the people here ILLEGALLY who get educations, housing, phones, health and dental care, WIC, energy assistance from our government officials, NOT TO MENTION all of the bleeding heart charities who won't give the time of day to someone who's trying to follow the rules! AND illegal aliens are eligible for free college educations!!!! I can't get a FREE college education! Neither can my children! I've worked since I was 15, graduated HS with excellent SAT's and as a semi-finalist on the NMS, served in the military for 5 years and then raised my children. I can't get into the really nice new housing rentals around the town I live in because by their standards I make too much money. But 36% of the people who live in the one across the street from my old apartment building are illegal and on welfare as well as making money under the table from everything from waitressing to mechanics. They are also involved in over half of the breakins, auto thefts, vandalism, and drug dealing as well as assaults and domestic violence over there.
People who try to follow the byzantine rules of our immigration system are punished and treated with disdain while people who flagrantly break the law are fawned over and catered too as if they are deserving better treatment than those of us who actually were born, work and pay taxes here.
Our legislators have given such broad powers to agencies such as Immigration Services, Homeland Security (as well as the IRS, EPA and CPS, but those are other rants) it's hard to see any way back. When our bureaucrats treat those who should be treated as friends as possible criminals because they are easy targets and make the numbers look good while brushing the hard work under the rug for whatever reason, .... well, it's just da** pathetic.

You're painting with a very wide brush in your statements.
Where is your proof?
Have you asked them?
Do you know any of this to be true for certain?
If so, how do you know?
If you don't know for certain and are just relying on what you believe to be the gospel truth, my next question is are you in the habit of slandering an entire group of people that you know nothing about on a regular basis?
My statements are backed up by police records, court records, government statistics from the WIC, public health offices and welfare offices within blocks of my house, landlords and property managers I've actually spoken to when attempting to find reasonably priced decent housing, and yes, actually from "the horses mouths". I know of three people specifically, personally, who were brought into this country illegally and now are getting a virtually "cost-free" full-ride college education because they were children when their parents brought them here. Their parents are STILL here, living and working and sending at least one of these college student's younger brother and sisters to junior and high school. And I know this because they told me. And one is my neighbor. So as far as my "knowing nothing about them", you are wrong. Do I dislike them? No! I dislike them breaking the law and not having any consequences. And that's due to immigration policies that penalize those who try to follow the rules and then look the other way for others who are flagrantly breaking them.
And no, I don't go slandering an ENTIRE people. I state an opinion about those people who break the law and use state and federal resources they are not entitled to because they aren't legal citizens.
In no way shape or form did I single out any group of people other than those who are breaking the law.
2. You wouldn't have access to court records belonging to someone else.
I'm calling BS on these two for obvious reasons, which means my question is still unanswered and your point still unproven.
3. Your welfare offices would not be quoting you statistics that would incriminate themselves for breaking the law. An illegal person without proper documentation cannot receive welfare and legal permanent residents only can after having worked so many qualifying quarters. No office in their right mind is going to say, "Hey lookit us! We have this much in assistance to people who weren't qualifed and we broke the law countless times!" However - their American born children *are* citizens and *are* entitled to welfare just like your kids are or you are yourself. You cannot exclude every American on welfare from your gripe, if the children are the argument you're taking regarding welfare. It's all inclusive being that they are all citizens.
Calling BS on this one, too.
4. You're talking about out of state college fees, I assume. That's not 'free'. That's easily fixable. Don't go to an out of state college if you don't want an out of state fee. I mean...really. What's the gripe here? Regarding financial aide that in most places they are excluded from getting, I mean, again - what's it to you? They're liable for paying it back, just like you are. This is hardly a 'hand out'.
I'm more concerned here, not with your disdain for illegal immigrants, but by the fact that you would complain about or want to deny a person - regardless of their status - food, medical care, housing, and education. Who are you to say they - or anybody else - isn't worthy of these, seemingly, basic human needs?
No, I'm not suggesting take away from anybody to provide for someone else. I'm asking what make you or us better that we get the chance and they don't?
Out of state or in state fees makes no difference. And obviously you haven't heard of the freedom of information act, police blotters, newspaper articles covering community activities, etc. And many of the social services are offered to anyone who asks for them without followup to see if the recipients are eligible because the system is faulty. Plain and simple.
If you want to support people who are breaking the law and give them support from your personal pocket book, by all means, do so. I don't wish to do so. Not from my personal funds or from my tax dollars.
And as for all of the "gripes" you have with my issues... you obviously would rather make an "issue" of who's entitled and what you assume are my "prejudices" without regard to anything in the first 2/3's of my article. That is where my gripes are... with the inequity of the system.
I have many, many friends who ARE from other countries, here and in their country of origin. Some are here on work visas, some on student visas, some are married to citizens and laboring under the avalanche of bureaucratic nonsense trying to follow the laws to stay here legally while being treated like they are doing something wrong. Some just want to some here ocassionally and visit. They are from Kenya, Nigeria, Colombia, Brazil, Mexico, Canada, Sweden, England, France and Portugal to name a few.
So... before you try and imply I'm prejudice, actually read the article and understand that my gripes are with a system that is NOT addressing the basic issues, with a large number of bureaucrats who are given too much authority to play tin-pot dictator, and those people who are trying to make sense of the whole thing and try to help people following the rules have their hands tied and the system is not helping anyone along (because the illegals who are here that have REAL problems and fall between the cracks truly have few places to turn.)
She is the wife of an illegal, and spews her garbage and runs on every thread that might remotely make her hubby look like the thief he is.
As for what the illegals are given, perhaps those of you who question it, should take a walk through an assistance office, social security office, and a neighborhood that is predominanlty illegal. Do you actually believe that these illegals only use their forged identifications to obtain jobs? Don't you know what anchor babies are born for? They use the system and know how to, better than many poor Americans!!!
Sweatshops exist, but often they are run by people from the immigrants own country who are paying off their "debt" for the cost of being brought here to the states. Often they are "sponsored" by the people running the sweatshop and if their "sponsor" follows through on getting their people legalised then all is well. Often they are here with valid work visas, but their "sponsor" holds their passport. So I don't consider them "illegals". They are quite often here with valid papers. I feel badly for them that they are gulled into paying so much for being here by their own fellow countrymen who use their labor, often but not always, unethically and outside the laws governing legal labor practises. The "sweatshops" abuse their workers and should be closed down, but those workers in many cases are here legally with proper sponsorship.
There are some business owners who have the people they help work off their debts in reasonable and legal (ie. following the intent of the labor laws) fashion, while they can go to school and move on. That is entrepreneurship at its finest, because it's helping others be successful while getting good help that they feel will be loyal and trustworthy.
Now... as for how much "illegals" are "given". They use false ID numbers to get public assistance, medical care, WIC, welfare, HEAP, free basic phone service, enroll their children in schools, and housing. How do I know this? Public statistics, police blotters, court records, all public record, by the way... newspaper articles and not some fly-by-night "right-wing" enterprises, the daily city newspapers. None of this should be "news" to anyone. The information is right out there and not hard to find.
Illegals aren't "sponsored" to be here or going through any legal process to become citizens. Any tax they might pay, which is negligible since most are paid under they table or using a fake id or someone else's number, is a drop in the bucket compared to the social services they suck down and are funded by all of our tax dollars.
I wrote this article NOT because I dislike people trying to better themselves and trying to become citizens of this country, or even work here and be part of our community while staying citizens of their country. I wrote this article because I've SEEN and been personally and painfully affected by our government's total INEQUALITY in dealing with those seeking legal entry into this country and then putting it down to keeping our borders safe. Buffering their numbers by going for easy targets.
That was the aim of my article.... A logical rant to offset the tears.
// I'm calling BS on these two for obvious reasons, which means my question is still unanswered and your point still unproven.//
//1. You wouldn't have access to police records belonging to someone else.
2. You wouldn't have access to court records belonging to someone else.//
As to the rest of your response: Once again, if they are illegal, WHAT RIGHT DO THEY HAVE TO EXPECT OR DEMAND ANYTHING FROM US!!!!
//Who are you to say they - or anybody else - isn't worthy of these, seemingly, basic human needs?//
WE are citizens and ENTITLED to what we have by having worked for it, fought for it, and PAID for it. Illegals have NOT!!!
If your husband and his illegal cohorts want the same, the they should go back to THEIR country, and DEMAND that it be given to them THERE!!!
