Are you confused as to how many groups to post to? Do you think you have a better chance of getting into the Gather top 25 if you post to more groups? I post more photos than articles but always do my best to post to the most appropriate groups. Sometimes I end up only posting to a handful. Sometimes it's dozens. I still can't figure out if it makes any difference in terms of how many comments I get. What I do know is size doesn't matter. I've often had better luck posting to small groups like my little POSTaholics or HeartbreakHotel rather than the super huge groups. How about you?
For my experiment, I've posted two similar photos of leaves frozen in ice. The one titled 'leaves in ice #1', and is posted to six groups. The other one 'leaves in ice #2 experiment is posted to a whopping 46 groups. I'm curious to know which photo will get the most comments.
For you number crunchers out there this article is posted to 62 groups. Let's see it that makes a difference. I've never had an article in the top 25 let alone anywhere near 100 comments but a girl can dream can't she? ;-)

There is a method to my madness. If the experiment doesn't illicit a good result, I'll probably leave Gather.
I must not be in any of your groups either cause I haven't see either picture you were talking about (except on this article.)
Good Luck.
Nana, if half connections were as loyal as you,I'd never leave. Do really belong to any of those groups that I posted?
Sometimes I think it's just in who you know, and getting in with the right group of people in order to illicit all those votes. I have never yet found it seemed to matter which way I've done it as far as getting comments.
So, if others do as I do....I don't think it matters too much how many groups you post to...as far as comments go BUT I do think you get more Gather points when posting to more groups. (not sure about that though)
Now, why in the world would you leave? If you have a handful of loyal connections...I think that's worth staying for. Isn't it? I know if you leave...I'll miss you something awful. :o(
Vicky, I'm as curious as you are ;-)
UPDATE, what's even stranger is another photo which I sneaked in and posted to NO groups at all is inching its way up to the top 25 fast. Maybe I shouldn't be so surprised It's me in a bikini. Oh, the things we do in the name of science ;-)
ROFLMAO---you're a bad, bad girl...Layla!
What's frustrating is that the really good artistic shots don't have the same odds.
AND now the RESULTS of the EXPERIMENT!
This article is still miraculously rated a 10. It got into the top 10 at best #8. I didn't catch a comment virus so I didn't reach my goal of 100 comments ;-(
Photo #2 which was posted lot of groups is the winner in terms of comments and voting. It's still in the top 10 as is my bikini pic (unfortunately). Photo #1 went no where in terms of visibility or most viewed, discussed etc. Conclusion? Posting to more groups is better except for anything provocative. As always sex sells ;-(
I'd have commented earlier but I'm sick and haven't even been online! I'm working through a lot of articles (reading) and commenting as well as rating, and this is rated a ten. If you leave, I will hunt you down and drag you back, kicking and screaming, and I'm trying to get this to come up on my other group, with more members, so I can feature it, in hopes that you'll get your hundred comments.
OK, got it, it's featured on Post what doesn't FIT anywhere else!
or
www.noplacelikehere.gather.com
Let's get the 100 comments!
Hugs,
Marilyn
BTW, I came across this totally by accident. I was looking for someone to argue politics with when I hit a link for "Post What Doesn't Fit Anywhere Else" group, and that brought me to your pic-posting.
