Death

It happens.
All our lives are touched by death sooner or later. We never quite know how we will react or even how we are really expected to react. We see it portrayed in so many different ways, yet somehow we seem to fumble when set upon the stage as it happens to us.

Our reactions take on a life of their own and feelings penetrate into the minutes and hours of our days. Evening darkens along with thoughts and regrets with stammering words nobody hears. We are glad to hide in the shadows of the night in silent relief away from the living.

We cannot control the time or the event. Much to our chagrin, it seems to take a toll upon us; even controlling to the very depths of our feelings. Sometimes we do well, hidden behind masks which crumble in self denial in our alone times. We do become one of the many. We do also become the bearer just like so many.

Death is not the stranger anymore. Death does that, you know.

Once it touches your life, it is like an injury that never quite heals. Some days pass with out much reflection. Other days are torment as death's belligerence makes us ache all over again. The ache becomes like a friend. Just when you think you missed it, it shows itself right at your side again.
