Your words come in spurts
After a pause for thought
Or maybe it's just effect
Falling from your lips
Like soft rain drops
I know you believe
But these words, these words are a paradox
Clarity lost in the haze
Heart's security blanket
Gravity is not to blame
For pulling us apart
Or bringing us back together
And those walls, those walls keep you safe
Invisible but the great divide
No ladder high enough
No bridge long enough
Fingers stretched out
Needing to hold on
Grasping at air
And your eyes, those beautiful eyes
They reveal the truth
Even as you look away

No bridge long enough'...
Beautifully written. The feelings vibrate in your deep words, Laurie.
John, but why on earth is it alluring? If anyone knows the answer, you'd get rich in explaining it to the rest of us.
Thanks, Jill, I'm happy this is one of your favorites. It has a special place for me.
Thanks Wendy, David, d.m. Laurun, and Atticas!
