I put this group together as a place for fellow MTG enthusiasts to discuss the game, trade ideas, and hopefully make connections with other players in their local areas.
Although I am in no way a high-caliber Pro Tour competitor, I do love the game both as a player and as a collector. I think the thing that comes closest to making me an authority is that I have been involved with the game since almost (but not quite... I missed Alpha and Beta) the beginning.
I remember the first starter deck I opened: Bayou, Mox Emerald, Black Lotus. Yeah, that's kinda cool looking back on it. Of course I'm also the idiot who traded a Mox Pearl (current value: well, let's just say hundreds of bucks) for a Keldon Warlord (current value: you'd have trouble giving one away for free) during my first week of playing.
These days I play in small local tournaments about once a week, usually with no particular results worth reporting, although I've collected plenty of second and third place finishes and I win one once in a great while.
My preferred formats are Draft, Sealed Deck, Vintage, and Legacy. I only play Standard when I am inspired with deck ideas that interest me (although now is one of those times, so I've been going to more Standard tourneys than usual lately). I'm an avid reader of the new set rumors on MTGSalvation, but don't play Magic online and I don't really keep up with online strategy discussions.
I prefer to come up with my own deck ideas, and I play decks more for their amusement value to me than their actual ability to win. I often play decks involving ridiculous combos (I'm sort of a Johnny/Vorthos mix if you think in terms of the classic Magic player archetypes). Let me put it to you this way: Nothing quite beats the satisfaction I get from imprinting Shahrazad on a Panoptic Mirror.

I have a few others in the works and I'm constantly revising the ones I have. I'm planning on posting some complete decklists to the group.
